Newsweek plans return to print

Posted online
After shutting down its print edition in October 2012, Newsweek will return to print with a 64-page weekly publication starting in January or February 2014, according to the New York Times.

The plan is for the publication to be more subscription-based, rather than driven by ad revenue.

The initial shutdown of the Newsweek print edition saved the news organization $40 million a year, but did not affect the company as positively as they expected.

InterActiveCorp sold Newsweek to a small digital company, IBT Media, in August. The new owners are currently negotiating with printers and distributors and hope to build circulation to 100,000 in the first year.

At its height in 1991, Newsweek had 3.3 million readers.
