Keystone Building and Design LLC was selected by Qualified Remodeler magazine for its 2012 Master Design Award. Honored at a gala in Baltimore, Keystone Building and Design was chosen for a kitchen design/build project and was among 38 selected nationwide.

Education
Missouri State University received a $144,134 grant for nursing education through Gov. Jay Nixon’s Caring for Missourians initiative. In all, the program granted $1 million to educate nurses at Missouri schools.

Finance
For the fifth consecutive year, The Whitlock Co. was listed among the 100 companies in Accounting Today and Best Companies Group’s 2012 Best Accounting Firms to Work For.

The Bank of Missouri added Rick Tallon to its community bank advisory group as director for the southwest Missouri market. Tallon, a dentist and the president/owner of Branson Dental Center, served on the board of directors for First Community Bank of the Ozarks, 1995–2012.

Stacy Hempen of Empire Bank was promoted to banking center manager and retail officer of the bank’s Glen Isle branch.

Government
Rep. Shane Schoeller, R-Willard, received the Missouri Farm Bureau’s 2012 Friend of Agriculture Award for his commitment to agriculture.

Insurance
Ollis & Co. hired Stacie Wells as an adviser in the commercial risk department. The MSU graduate is a former business owner and is licensed in property and casualty insurance. Her responsibilities include assisting small and midsize businesses to develop risk reduction and cost control plans.

Law
Virginia Fry of Husch Blackwell LLP was named Best Lawyers’ 2013 Labor & Employment Lawyer of the Year in the Springfield market for litigation. The list, which designates the top lawyers by specialty in their communities, is compiled from peer-reviewed surveys.

Nonprofit
Eight Springfield-area businesspeople were honored with the Missourian Award for contributions to their communities and the state: Jerald Andrews of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, Dr. John “Bucky” Buckner III and Dr. Jose Dominguez of Ferrell-Duncan Clinic, George Carden of the George Carden Circus International, Jim D. Morris of Morris Oil Co. Inc. and Care to Learn, Walter Pettit Jr. of Pettit & Pettit Law Offices PC, Doug Pitt of ServiceWorld Computer Center and Care to Learn, and Edwin “Cookie” Rice of Ozarks Coca-Cola/Dr Pepper Bottling Co.

Service
The city of Branson Tree Board selected the Taco Bell restaurant at 2000 W. Highway 76 as the recipient of the Beautification Award. After sustaining damage during a February tornado, Taco Bell remodeled its building and updated its landscaping.

Nancy Berlin was named director of development for the Ozarks Regional YMCA. Berlin, who has 14 years of nonprofit experience, is responsible for developing strategies to advance the YMCA’s mission, programs and goals.

Springfieldian Brian Thompson, co-owner of The Outdoor Xperienced LLC, won the 2012 Central Pro-Am Bass Fishing Co-Angler of the Year Award.
