Banking and Finance Central Trust & Investment Co. added Candice Reed as vice president and wealth management adviser and Janet Helfrecht as vice president-trust administrator and relationship manager. Reed has five years of experience in the trust business and previously worked in private banking for Commerce Bank. Helfrecht, who relocated from Florida, has 20 years of legal experience, as well as in estate planning and probate work.
Education Patricia Betterridge, a high school art, photography and humanities teacher for 25 years, received Southwest Baptist University’s Edwin Lightfoot Distinguished Alumni Award, recognizing alumni leadership, and dedication to the education and welfare of youth.
The Evangel University Alumni Association honored four former faculty members as Tree of Honor recipients for their years of service. An engraved bronze plaque has been placed at the base of four trees on campus as a tribute to Zenas Bicket, who taught English at Evangel 1964-85; Steve Davidson, a biology professor for 38 years; Billie Davis, who taught for 11 years and founded the university’s social work program; and John Shows, a 41-year music professor.
Four SBU alumni received Life Service Awards: Betty Clark, English tutor and church organist; Sondra Mahoney, elementary school teacher; Herbert Pederson, pastor; and Stephen Whisler, music department faculty member.
Government Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Peggy Taylor, of Nixa, to the Missouri Charter Public Schools Commission for a term ending Sept. 17, 2018. The commission has the authority under state statutes to sponsor charter schools throughout Missouri. Taylor is the retired owner of Dogwood Printing Inc. in Ozark and a Nixa school board member.
Health Care The Missouri Department of Economic Development awarded Marshfield Senior Center $350,000 in Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits to support efforts to provide meals, social activities and health services to seniors.
Oxford HealthCare in-home aide Janet Dean received the Above and Beyond Caregiver Award at the annual conference of the Missouri Council for In-Home Services. Nominations are submitted from in-home providers throughout the state, and a committee selects the winners.
Mercy’s Injury Prevention Center in Springfield was awarded a $53,541 grant from Kohl’s Department Stores to fund the Rock Your Seat Belt campaign. The Kohl’s project is designed to educate teenagers on the importance of seat belt use in decreasing death and injuries in car crashes.
Hospitality Big Cedar Lodge was one of six companies statewide named to the 2014 Best Places to Work by Missouri Business magazine. The company will be honored at an Oct. 23 conference in Columbia.
Law Polsinelli PC attorney and shareholder Jennifer Growcock was named a 2014 Up and Coming attorney by Missouri Lawyer’s Weekly. Growcock, who was recognized for her litigation and appellate experience, holds a law degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a bachelor’s in English from the University of Iowa.
Lisa Goyer joined Husch Blackwell LLP as a senior counselor in employee benefits. Goyer, who holds a law degree from the University of Illinois and a bachelor’s from the University of Missouri, has 25 years of related experience.

Arrowhead Building Supply was named the 2014 Small Business of the Year by the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Development Advisory Council. The groups also honored The Crisis Center of Taney County Inc. as Charity of the Year and Chateau on the Lake with the Ozark Mountain Hospitality Award.
Retail Josh Pruschen, the timepiece manager for Maxon’s Diamond Merchants, completed the Graduate Diamond Degree program through the Gemological Institute of America. Including course work and a laboratory practicum, Pruschen was educated in diamond analysis, class identification and cutting, and he is apprenticing in the field of appraisal.
