Education Sun-Young Park, Ph.D., joined Drury University as an assistant professor of communication. She earned a bachelor’s from Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea, a master’s from the University of Texas-Austin and a doctorate in mass communications at the university of Florida. Kevin Preuss, Ph.D., joined Drury as an assistant professor of biology. Previously a postdoctoral research fellow at Indiana University, Preuss earned a bachelor’s from Kansas State University and a doctorate in biology from Duke University. Anthony Smith joined Drury as a Spanish instructor. He has a bachelor’s from the University of Central Oklahoma and a master’s from the University of Oklahoma. Smith is completing a Ph.D. in medieval and golden age Spanish literature at University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Health Care Dr. Jay Carlson, a gynecologic oncologist with Mercy Springfield Communities, was named chairman of a national research protocol to determine the risk factors and incidence of developing lymphedema following surgery for uterine, cervical or vulvar cancers. The research, which involves more than 1,300 women, is sponsored through the National Cancer Institute and the Gynecologic Oncology Group.
Dr. Chris H. Boschen joined Sunshine Eye Clinic. Boschen, a Springfield native, earned a bachelor’s in biological sciences from the University of Missouri and attended graduate school at St. Louis College of Optometry. Boschen is a member of the American Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry, Missouri Optometric Association and Greater Ozarks Optometric Society.
Ozarks Community Hospital hired speech therapist Angelique Lawson-Clark and nurse practitioner Jeanene Kennett. Lawson-Clark, who received her post-secondary education at Walden University, works with pediatric patients at OCH Christian County Clinic in Nixa. Kennett, who received her education from Fort Hays State University, works alongside OCH cardiologist Dr. Keesag Baron.

Services Environmental Works Inc. added Virginia Cordova as a project manager and Josh Evans as an environmental technician. Cordova, who works in the firm’s assessment and compliance division, previously worked in regional safety and casualty claims and loss control for Mediacom Communications. Evans, who works in the company’s field services department, served four years at Whiteman Air Force Base as a firefighter.
Tom Smith received the Griff Glover Franchisee of The Year Award from Pizza Inn Inc. Smith, who owns two Pizza Inn stores in Springfield, received the award at the 2012 National Franchise Convention in Destin, Fla.
The American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute selected Billy Smith of Justice Jewelers to receive the designation of AWCI 21st Century Watchmaker. Smith is one of two individuals in Missouri to hold the title that recognizes expertise in horology.
