Accounting
KPM CPAs PC earned the QuickBooks Online Advanced Certification, which provides further advanced training with QuickBooks.

Christine McIntire, a staff accountant with KPM, completed the certified public accounting examination and earned a CPA license from the American Institute of CPAs. She recently graduated from Southwest Baptist University with an accounting degree.

KPM hired Tracy Hofer as a senior accountant and Julie Gratton as an administrative assistant. Hofer has nearly five years of experience and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Missouri Society of CPAs. With nearly three years of administrative experience, Gratton assists with the daily operations of KPM and its professionals.

Praxity, an alliance of independent accountancy firms of which BKD LLP is a founding member, was named Association of the Year at the 2016 Accountant and International Accounting Bulletin Conference and Awards. This is the second time in three years Praxity has received the award.

Banking
Hawthorn Bank hired David Jacobson as a business development officer and Tom Lay as a commercial loan officer. Jacobson’s career in mortgage and real estate spans 36 years, and he is a founding member of the local BNI Game Changers Chapter. Lay has 29 years of banking experience, along with a certification from the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin.

Mid-Missouri Bank promoted Jennifer Smith to assistant vice president at the Sunshine Street branch. She previously worked title as a personal banker.

Civic
Dee King
, director of sales at the DoubleTree Hotel, joined the Springfield-Greene County Park Board as a board member for a three-year term.

Education
Christian Universities Online ranked College of the Ozarks No. 1 in the 50 Best Christian Colleges and Universities and No. 1 in the 50 Most Affordable Christian Colleges and Universities for 2017. The methodology considered faculty-to-student ratios, retention and graduation rates, and net price tuition data.

Health Care
Advantage Therapy hired Seth Owens, a doctor of physical therapy. Previously working at an outpatient clinic in Lebanon, he has experience treating workers’ compensation injuries with special interest in manual therapy techniques.

Law
Ryan Frazier
joined Neale & Newman LLP as an associate. The Springfield native graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Missouri-Kansas Super Lawyers magazine named five attorneys at Carnahan, Evans, Cantwell & Brown PC among the top attorneys in Missouri for 2016: John Carnahan, Joseph “Chip” Sheppard, Thomas Peebles, John Price and Rodney Nichols.

Municipal
The city of Springfield named Darla Morrison interim human resources director. She has served in the city department since 1991. As the human resources coordinator, Morrison supervises and manages the employment, training and classification division. She has a master’s in public administration and a bachelor’s in human resources and psychology from MSU.

Restaurant
Big Whiskey’s Concepts Inc. appointed Dan Allen vice president of marketing and franchising for the restaurant and bar chain. In the newly created position, he is responsible for franchising Big Whiskey’s in North America, creating the marketing strategies for franchisees, and developing and executing a new advertising program for the five corporate stores in southwest Missouri. Allen also owns GMS Group Inc., an event and marketing firm.
