Education Everest College hired Pamela Helvey as academic dean and Kevin Asberry as director of high school admissions for its Springfield campus. Helvey holds a bachelor’s in education from Missouri State University and a master’s in educational administration from the University of Missouri. With 20 years of experience in higher education and human resources, she is responsible for recruiting, supervising and evaluating faculty, and developing departmental goals. Asberry, a business administration graduate from Evangel, has nine years of experience, and he manages high school relations and enrollment for Everest.
Ozarks Technical Community College Chancellor Hal Higdon received the Pacesetter of the Year award from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations. The annual award recognizes community college presidents or CEOs for leadership and support of the college’s marketing and public relations effort.

Health Care CoxHealth psychologist Brittany Allen earned board certification in neuropsychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology. Allen received special training in brain-behavior relationships for assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with neurological, medical, developmental or psychiatric conditions.
Three CoxHealth nurses received Daisy Awards. Registered nurses Karen Salemie and Mellisa Thompson of Cox South and Rachel Hutsell of Cox Walnut Lawn were recognized by California-based nonprofit Daisy Foundation for providing education, training, skill and compassionate care. Nurses are nominated by patients and their families, co-workers and volunteers.
Area Walmart and Sam’s Club stores raised a record $253,438 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth through the annual six-week fundraiser. The 2012 tally, now in its 25th year, was 37 percent higher than last year.
Citizens Memorial Hospital added Dr. Catherine McCray to the medical staff at the Dallas County Family Medical Center in Buffalo. The University of Kansas School of Medicine graduate is a family practice physician and also practices obstetrics. McCray previously practiced family medicine in Fulton and Columbia.

Dr. Miriam Borden joined the medical staff at Citizens Memorial Hospital’s Rheumatology Clinic in Bolivar. She is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines and completed a fellowship in rheumatology and a residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Borden previously practiced rheumatology at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach.

Advertising designer Heather Mosley won first and third places for Best Ad Idea of Promotion of an Advertiser as well as third place for Best Ad Idea or Promotion of the Newspaper. Reporter Brian Brown received second place in Best Business Story for “Phoenix rises from Integrity breakup,” and the editorial department earned second place for Best Online Newspaper or Website, third place for Best Local Business Coverage, and honorable mention for General Excellence.
Marketing Sharina Smith was named vice president of marketing for Enactus USA, the organization formerly known as Students in Free Enterprise. The last six years, Smith served as senior director of marketing and communications for Southwest Baptist University.
Nonprofit Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris was honored with the inaugural Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies Johnny Morris Award. AFWA, which represents North America’s fish and wildlife agencies, named the award for Morris during its annual meeting in Hilton Head Island, S.C., in recognition of his lifetime dedication to fish and wildlife preservation.
