Architecture
Bates & Associates Architects named Bill Burmeister as principal architect. Burmeister has 12 years of architecture experience, most recently as a vice president for global design firm HOK.

Communications
Five Springfield Mediacom employees earned regional honors for customer service: Elisa Baldridge, Payment Center Representative of the Year; service technician Richard Bergan, Award of Excellence; service technician James Hurley, Image Award; Teresa Johnson, Call Center Employee of the Year; and marketing associate Cheryl Hundley Unsung Hero Award.

Education
The Accounting Club/Institute of Management Accountants student chapter at Missouri State University received the 2012–13 Award of Excellence and the Outstanding Student Chapter Award from the Institute of Management Accountants.

Finances
Pension Consultants Inc. added Dave Clemenson and Stephen Moser as consultants and Chuck Self as a senior investment consultant. Clemenson, who holds a bachelor’s in business administration from Baylor University, most recently worked at The Principal Financial Group in Des Moines, Iowa. Moser, a certified financial planner, most recently worked for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in Sequim, Wash. Self, who holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, previously worked for Parasol Investment Management LLC in Chicago.

Government
Sen. Mike Parson, R-Bolivar, was awarded the 2013 Legislative Award from the Missouri Home Builders Association of St. Louis and Eastern Missouri.

Insurance
SMI Group of BancorpSouth Insurance Services Inc. was selected by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America to participate in the organization’s Best Practices Study Group. SMI Group was one of 216 independent agencies nationwide asked to participate out of more than 1,100.

Law
Attorney Bryan Fisher joined Neale & Newman LLP. Fisher holds a bachelor’s in communications from Southwest Baptist University and a law degree from the University of Arkansas.

Recreation
Twin Oaks Country Club was one of 12 golf courses in the U.S. and China honored through the Design Excellence Recognition Program by the American Society of Golf Course Architects. Twin Oaks was recognized for designing a new practice range with synthetic greens that could be configured as a short course.

Retail
John Paul Morris, general manager of Bass Pro Shops’ online store, was appointed to a three-year term on the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation board. With his term beginning in 2014, Morris will work with federal and state lawmakers to protect and advance hunting, recreational fishing, and shooting and trapping.

Tourism
The Missouri Department of Economic Development’s Division of Tourism presented the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau with the Marketing Campaign Award at the 2013 Governor’s Conference on Tourism.

The award, which recognizes special achievements in effective, integrated marketing campaigns employing more than one medium and leading to increased visitation, was presented for the CVB’s Sammie Springfield campaign featuring a sock monkey toy who shares the community’s offerings with meeting planners.
