Five accountants with BKD LLP’s Southern Missouri practice obtained the Certified Public Accountant designation: Jason Griffin, an associate in the tax department with a bachelor’s in business administration and accounting from Pittsburg State University; Ashley Jones, an associate in the audit department who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Missouri State University; Kyle Miller, an associate in the audit department with a bachelor’s in accounting and administrative management and an MBA from MSU; Courtney Smith, a tax department associate with a bachelor’s in finance and an MBA from MSU; and Craig Stark, an associate in the tax department who holds a bachelor’s in accounting and marketing from Missouri Southern State University.

Banking and Finance
Justin Wagner joined Mid-Missouri Bank as chief lending officer. Wagner, who holds a bachelor’s in finance from Columbia College, worked previously for the bank as community president in Joplin and Webb City.

Education
Jason Salazar, assistant professor of music at Evangel University, was named by the school as the 2014 recipient of the Orville and Jewel Mills Young Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award honors Evangel teachers under the age of 45 for their contributions to the school.

Carol Taylor was formally appointed president at Evangel. Taylor, who succeeds Robert Spence and has served as interim president the past year, is the first Evangel graduate and first female to hold the position. She has a doctorate in multilingual and multicultural education from Florida State University, a master’s in cross-cultural communication from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary and a bachelor’s in elementary education from Evangel.

Health Care
Loehr Chiropractic and Acupuncture hired Dr. Steven Baca as a chiropractic internist and Dr. Aimee LaBrie as a pediatric physician. With 15 years of experience in chiropractic care, acupuncture and nutrition, Baca holds a doctor of chiropractic degree from Logan College of Chiropractic and a bachelor’s in communications from MSU. LaBrie has five years of experience and holds a bachelor’s in human biology and a doctor of chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College.

Insurance
MSU’s Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning was one of two programs to be recognized as a National Exemplary Teaching and Learning Center during the annual International Conference on College Teaching and Learning in Florida. MSU and the University of Washington-Bothell were selected from 107 respondents to a national survey last fall.

Nixon & Lindstrom Insurance hired Angela Scott as a property and casualty agent. She has experience selling personal lines and as a small-business insurance specialist.  

Law
The Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association presented Springfield Municipal Court Probation Officer Jody Austin with its Liberty Bell Award, given to nonlawyer citizens for strengthening the legal system. Austin has worked 19 years with the 31st Circuit Court in Greene County and five years with the Greene County Juvenile Justice Center.

Media
Adam Letterman, graphic arts manager for Missouri Neighbor News, was elected 2014-15 second vice president for the Missouri Advertising Managers’ Association. Letterman holds a bachelor’s in print journalism from MSU.

Nonprofit
SWI Industrial Solutions named Cinda Rook as human resources manager. Rook has 15 years of related experience.[[In-content Ad]]
