Nonprofit Bill Anderson, Roy Green and Karen Ross were honored for their service to the Safety Council of the Ozarks at the Traffic Referral Services Department Appreciation banquet. Anderson was recognized for his years of work with the Driver’s Education Behind the Wheel program as a driving instructor; Green received the 2011 Instructor of the Year Award for his dedication to the Behind the Wheel program; and Ross earned the 2011 Volunteer of the Year for her work with the Substance Abuse Traffic Offenders Program Weekend Intervention Program.
The Arc of the Ozarks named Valerie Gustin as program supervisor for the Community Connections program and Karen Jones-Finley as interim employment coordinator. Gustin supports disabled individuals as they learn to live and work in the community. Jones-Finley helps disabled individuals gain employment and is a mentor to participants in the Employment Solutions program.
Developmental Center of the Ozarks added two members to its 2012 board of directors: Megan Finn, a lender at BancorpSouth, and Ursula James, co-owner of Simmons Beautyrest Sleep Gallery. Executive committee members are President Scott Tumlin, Vice President Andy Stewart, Treasurer Brian Hickman and Secretary Kevin Stubblefield.
The Ozarks Regional YMCA selected its executive officers for 2012: John Himmel of Commerce Bank, president; Stacey Zengel of Jack Henry & Associates, president-elect; Mark Sharp of BKD LLP, treasurer; and Dr. John Duff of CoxHealth, secretary.
The Missouri Food Bank Association elected Ozarks Food Harvest President and CEO Bart Brown to a two-year term as president. MFBA is a coalition of six Feeding America food banks.
Retail Wood ReNew franchisee Bret McGowne received awards for top sales for a single month, top sales in 2011 and highest reseal percentage at the annual Wood ReNew conference. McGowne also was voted by his peers as the franchise’s Most Valuable Promoter, and his Springfield and Branson offices were awarded a 2011 Angie’s List Super Service Award, presented to service companies that maintained a superior rating on Angie’s List.
Springfield’s Walmart stores presented a $15,500 donation to Care to Learn to meet the needs of 155 Springfield Public Schools students. The students were paired with SPS employees who helped them shop at Walmart for items such as clothing, toiletries and nutritional food.[[In-content Ad]]
The former Kmart store on the grounds of the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World and Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium is slated for demolition, according to a permit on file with the city of Springfield.
