Architecture
Jason Hainline joined Dake Wells Architecture as a design associate. Hainline has 15 years of sustainable design experience, including site and landscape planning, energy efficient architectural design analysis and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design coordination.

Banking
Eric Gerke, UMB Bank’s assistant vice president and business development officer, relocated to Springfield from UMB Bank in St. Louis. He is responsible for customer service and relationships, small-business banking and partnering with other lines of business to increase market share. Gerke earned his bachelor’s in business administration from Missouri State University.

Education
Matt Stringer, an associate professor of education at Evangel University, received the Orville and Jewel Mills Young Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award, which includes an unrestricted cash grant, was established by the Millses to recognize professors younger than 45 years old. Orville Mills is a retired comptroller for Exxon-Mobile and serves on Evangel’s board of directors.

Evangel presented education professor Frederick Drake with the 2012 E.M. and Estella Clark Award for excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. Drake was nominated for the award – which recognizes his contributions to higher education within the Assemblies of God organization – by students, faculty and staff.

Omaha, Neb.-based Vetter Foundation awarded a $45,000 grant to Evangel University, which will help the school’s business department launch a nonprofit business and social enterprise major in the fall.

Kelly Educational Staffing selected Springfield Public Schools substitute teacher Jack Dueck as the 2011–12 Missouri Substitute Teacher of the Year. Dueck holds a bachelor’s in psychology from Arizona State University.

Health Care
Mercy Hospital Springfield added several physicians: Dr. Raymund Tan joined Mercy Clinic Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; Dr. Elene Pilapil joined Mercy Clinic Internal Medicine-Smith Glynn Caraway; Dr. Ling Li returned to Mercy Clinic Neurology-Whiteside; and Dr. Scott Duff was hired to work at Mercy Clinic.

Nurse practitioners Kristin Schulte, Dina Bieker and Polly Diehl joined CoxHealth. Schulte received a bachelor’s from MSU and a master’s from University of Missouri-Kansas City; Bieker earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from MSU; and Diehl received a bachelor’s from Southwest Baptist University and a master’s from University of Central Missouri.

Eight nurses with Mercy Springfield Communities were nominated by their peers and recognized for their contributions to the hospital and community with Excellence in Nursing awards: Kurt Abbey, Sylvia Barber, Monica Daugherty, Lisa Gilmore, Pearlena Hamlet, LeAnn Rens, Julie Taylor and Stephanie Woehl.

CoxHealth received the Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure Silver Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. CoxHealth reached a goal of treating heart failure patients for one year with 85 percent compliance to core standard levels of care.

Three medical professionals received special recognition as part of Branson’s 2012 Champions of Health Care program. Dr. Lynn Allision, a primary care physician at the Branson Clinic, was honored with the Patient’s Choice Award; Dr. Brian Clonts, a hospitalist at Skaggs Regional Medical Center, received the Medical Innovator Award; and Vickie Smeya, a hospice chaplain for Oxford HealthCare/Hospice in Springfield, received the Community Caregiver Award.

Mattax-Neu-Prater Eye Center Inc. was re-accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.

Hospitality
Doubletree by Hilton of Springfield was awarded the Crystal Cookie Award presented to the hotels that best demonstrate local community outreach efforts. More than 300 Doubletree properties applied for the award, and the Springfield hotel was one of 10 to be named.

Manufacturing
Mount Vernon-based spice manufacturer Red Monkey Foods was named a finalist in the Fastest Growing Company of the Year category in the 2012 American Business Awards. More than 140 business professionals selected the finalists from applicants across the country.

Nonprofit
The National Park Service Midwest Region recognized the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation with the Outstanding Friends’ Group Project Award as part of the 2012 Midwest Region Partnership Awards. The Wilson’s Creek foundation was selected for its work to planning the 150th Anniversary Commemoration and Re-enactment of the Battle of Wilson’s Creek last summer.
