Accounting
The Institute of Management Accountants selected certified public accountant Brent Kembell, a vice president of commercial banking at UMB Bank, for its Young Professional of the Year Award. Kembell is one of five rising accounting and finance professionals across the country who will be recognized during the institute’s annual conference in June.

Architecture
Bates & Associates Inc. hired architect Chad Bruning and associate architect Jessica Condor. Bruning, previously with Pellham Phillips Architects and Engineers, serves as a project architect and project manager. Condor brings to the firm a bachelor’s in design from the University of Florida and a master’s in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.

Hamilton Properties Corp. received the 2013 Preserve Missouri Award from the Missouri Alliance for Historic Preservation for its rehabilitation of the Adams Park School building in Trenton.  

Banking
First Home Savings Bank promoted Amber Gliedt to assistant vice president of operations management. Gliedt, who has six years of banking experience, assists in supervising deposit operations. The bank also promoted Missy Pellham to assistant vice president and manager of its Sparta branch. Pellham has 23 years of banking experience, including 18 years with First Home Savings.

Metropolitan National Bank hired Lisa Burton as secondary market mortgage underwriter and Melissa Conner as mortgage team and secondary market mortgage operations manager. Burton, who has 20 years of financial industry experience, holds a bachelor’s in finance from Missouri State University and a residential underwriter certification from the Mortgage Bankers Association. Conner, who has 16 years of industry experience, worked previously for 11 years with Wells Fargo/Homeservices Lending.

Education
The Society of Professional Journalists presented a 2012 Region 7 Mark of Excellence Award to The Standard, Missouri State University’s student-run newspaper. The newspaper won first place honors in the Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper category in the large-school division and now advances to the national SPJ contest.

MSU honored Lauren Whaley with the Community Engagement Intern of the Year Award for her work in organizing and analyzing metabolic and nutrition data collected from 51 drivers in Prime Inc.’s health and fitness program. The school also recognized the company for participation in the first year of the dietetic internship program.

Jennifer Perryman was named head girls basketball coach for the Nixa Lady Eagles. Perryman, who teaches physical education at Nixa High School, has served as head junior varsity coach and varsity assistant coach at Nixa High for the past nine seasons.  
David Steward, CEO of St. Louis-based World Wide Technology Inc., donated $10,000 to the Missouri Colleges Fund that supports student scholarships at 17 member institutions, including Drury, Evangel and Southwest Baptist universities.

Allyson Browning was honored as Missouri’s 2012–13 Substitute Teacher of the Year by Kelly Educational Staffing. Browning served as Carver Middle School’s permanent building substitute.

Health Care
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, an agency of the Department of Defense, presented a Patriot Award to Shawnee Finnern, a patient access registrar at Mercy Hospital Springfield. Finnern was recognized for supporting the hospital’s employees who serve in the Army Reserve.

Insurance
American Family Insurance agent Jeff Yoakam received the company’s American Star Excellence in Customer Experience Certification. Yoakam has worked as an American Family agent for 19 years.

Nonprofit
Cindy Baker, owner of Touchstone LLC in Ozark, was named the 2013 Woman of Distinction by the Ozarks Alliance of Professional Organizations. She was honored for fostering opportunities and growth for women and their families in the Ozarks. Baker holds a bachelor’s in family and consumer sciences from Washburn University, a master’s in guidance and counseling from MSU and a doctorate in education from the University of Missouri.

Scoutmaster Timothy Russell, of Nixa, was selected as one of the top 55 Boy Scout leaders in the U.S. by the Boy Scouts of America during the organization’s annual meeting in Grapevine, Texas. During his tenure as Scoutmaster of Troop 200, he has led more than 25 young men to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

Transportation
Prime Inc. named John Callahan 2012 Instructor of the Year. Callahan, who has worked with the trucking company nearly four years and never had an accident on the road, received $500, a plaque and will have his name added to the Wall of Fame at Prime.[[In-content Ad]]
