Accounting Aaron Allen, Lindsay Dale and Lee Englund of BKD LLP obtained the certified public accountant designation. Allen has a bachelor’s in accountancy from Missouri State University, while Dale and Englund each hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accountancy, also from MSU.
Banking Reed Hopper was hired as vice president of private banking for the Commerce Trust Co. in the Springfield region. Hopper has a bachelor’s in finance from MSU.
Construction David Roling, the Springfield branch manager for Emery Sapp & Sons Inc., completed the Designated Design-Build Professional program of the Design-Build Institute of America. Roling is now certified by the association for design-build project delivery.
Esterly, Schneider & Associates Inc. hired Ashley Twibell as marketing director. Twibell, who has a bachelor’s in design arts, visual communications and global studies from Drury University, previously worked in administration at Van Tuyl Auto Group.
Education MSU selected six former employees for its 2013 Wall of Fame, which recognizes faculty and staff for outstanding service. New appointees are Alice Fleetwood Bartee, Bill Cheek, Clint Copeland, Fred Marty, Greg Onstot and Guy Thompson, who combined have worked roughly 150 years with the university.

Government ArtPlace America and the National Endowment of the Arts awarded the city of Springfield a $200,000 loan to aid its ideaXfactory. Springfield, one of 1,200 applicants for the grant, will use the funds for site-specific art during an 18-month period.
Rep. Lynn Morris, R-Nixa, received the Freshman Legislator of the Year award for his work on health care policy. Morris was recognized for his work on House Bill 218 and Senate Bill 126, as well as his role on the House Committee on Healthcare Policy.
Springfield Police Department Lts. Grant Dorrell and Vance Holland graduated from the Missouri Police Chiefs Charitable Foundation Command College in its third graduating class. Dorrell and Holland are actively pursuing master’s degrees in sociology and criminal justice from Lincoln University.
Health Care The American Academy of Sleep Medicine granted a five-year reaccredidation to the CoxHealth Sleep Disorder Center. The accreditation recognizes centers for high-quality diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.
The Healthy Living Alliance hired Patty Cantrell as director, Christy Claybaker as outreach coordinator and Ben Hunt as assessment coordinator. Cantrell, who earned an MBA from Drury University, worked in community development at the Michigan Land Use Institute and as owner of small business Regional Food Solutions LLC. As a retired licensed massage therapist and nine-year entrepreneur, Claybaker published a whole health and wellness directory, called the iBody Directory. Hunt is pursuing a master’s in health promotion and wellness management at MSU.
Dr. Nicola Gathaiya was hired as endocrinologist at CoxHeath’s adult medicine and endocrinology clinic. Gathaiya enrolled at Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, before finishing her residency with the Mayo Clinic. She is board-certified in internal medicine.
Hospitalist Dr. Bassil Bayazed and dermatologist Dr. James Swann joined the staff of Citizens Memorial Hospital. Bayazed is a graduate of Aleppo University Facility of Medicine in Aleppo, Syria, and completed his residency at Indiana University School of Medicine. Swann graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and finished his internship at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.
Nonprofit The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield received Awards of Excellence from the National Association of Home Builders. A communications award was earned for a workers’ compensation compliance video, while a membership award recognized the HBA’s membership engagement mixer.
Insurance Bill Budnick, a sales and business development manager at Akers & Arney, was one of 15 agents representing insurance brokerage agencies at the Illinois Casualty Co.’s 2013 Agent Advisory Council.
Retail O’Reilly Auto Parts was honored by Gov. Jay Nixon with the Flag of Freedom for hiring military veterans under the state’s Show-Me Heroes program. Since Jan. 1, O’Reilly has hired about 500 veterans nationally.
