Accounting
The Whitlock Co. promoted staff accountants Melinda Thurman and Josh Beaird to senior accountants. Thurman holds a bachelor’s in accounting from Missouri State University, and Beaird has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from MSU.

Whitlock Co. staff accountant Chelsey Dollarhide earned the certified public accountant designation. Dollarhide has a bachelor’s in business administration from Drury University.

The Springfield chapter of the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance named Jessica Shorney, accounting manager at TeleComm Credit Union, Member of the Year. Shorney, who has eight years of accounting experience, is AFWA’s 2013–14 president elect.

Banking & Finance
First Home Savings Bank promoted Jessica Woolman to assistant vice president and bank manager and Lorna Welch to operations manager at its Ava branch. Woolman has 12 years of experience, and Welch has 19 years of experience.

Metropolitan National Bank hired Chan Crooker as vice president and commercial loan officer. With 15 years of experience, Crooker has attended the Missouri School of Bank Management, Missouri School of Lending and the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wis.

Baron Financial Group hired Monica Henderson as office manager. She previously worked for the Courtney Law Firm.

Construction
Don Cole Jr. and his company, Autumn Exteriors, received the Award of Excellence from building products manufacturer Alside.

Government
Conservative coalition Concerned Women for America of Missouri honored Republican Lynn Morris, who represents District 140 in Christian County, with the Freshman Statesman Award for his work during the 2013 legislative session.

Education
Casey Daugherty, a communication arts teacher at Republic High School, received a Distinguished Fulbright Award in Teaching grant. She is one of 17 to travel abroad through the program, using her grant to conduct research in the United Kingdom.

MSU renewed the contract of legislative consultant Jerry Burch. Burch, MSU’s legislative consultant since 1990, served in the Missouri House of Representatives 1978–1990.

MSU’s College of Business named three members to its executive advisory council: Chris Maloney, vice president of Wells Fargo in St. Louis; Bethany Johnson, CEO of St. Louis Integrated Health Network; and Scott Salmon, vice president of Kellogg’s.

Health Care
Southwest Baptist University physical therapy faculty member Beverly McNeal was recognized as a board-certified geriatric specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. McNeal obtained 2,000 hours of clinical practice in geriatrics, 500 hours within the last three years, and completed a 200-question exam.

The American Medical Association re-elected Dr. David Barbe to its governing board. First elected in 2009, Barbe has practiced family medicine in Mountain Grove for 30 years and received his medical degree and master’s in health administration from the University of Missouri.

Mercy Springfield Communities made five staff additions. Dr. Darin Talley and registered nurse Sarah Cates returned to Mercy after stints elsewhere. Talley, an orthopedic surgeon, completed a foot and ankle fellowship at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, and Cates, a family nurse practitioner, taught for two years at the Mercy College of Nursing.

Dr. James Collins, who received his medical education from the University of Cincinnati, joined Mercy Clinic Pediatric Neurology. Nurse practitioner Kristina Burton joined Mercy Clinic Gastroenterology-Whiteside. She holds a bachelor’s in nursing from SBU and a master’s in nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in Joplin. Emily Crouse joined Mercy Clinic Ear, Nose and Throat and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from the University of Central Missouri.

Citizens Memorial Hospital Dr. Juris Simanis received credentials in musculoskeletal sonography from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Simanis, who practices at CMH’s Sports and Occupational Medicine Clinic, attended the Medical College of Virginia and completed the Carilion Roanoke Family Practice Residency Program.

The Radio Television Digital News Association awarded KSPR the 2013 national Edward R. Murrow Award for best small-market newscast for its coverage of the Leap Day Tornadoes in February 2012.
