Banking & Finance Daniel Malachowski of Baron Financial Group was awarded the Top of the Pyramid Advisor Award by Transamerica. As a principal and agent at Baron Financial, he has managed clients since 1996.
Education Bob Glidwell, Southwest Baptist University’s physical plant director, and Dana Steward, instructor of university studies and director of the University Success Center, received the Staff and Faculty Life Beautiful awards, respectively, the highest staff and faculty honors. Glidwell, who has worked at SBU since 1982 and recently served as general contractor on two simultaneous campus projects, was honored for his efforts to cut expenses. Steward, who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the university where she has been employed since 2005, was honored for service above her general duties.
Empire District Electric Co. donated a bucket truck to SBU for campus maintenance work. The truck, retired from Empire’s fleet, is a 2005 Ford F450 4x4, with an aerial unit reaching 37 feet high.
Health Care CoxHealth added two new members to its board of directors: Robert Mahaffey, president of Mahaffey Enterprises Inc., and David Manuel, president of Drury University.
Manufacturing Askinosie Chocolate, in partnership with Drury University, selected 13 Springfield high school students for participation in the 2014 Chocolate University program. Students Madeline Hession, Claire Wang, Abby Lee, Meredith Waites, Arjo Mitra, Samuel Snodgrass, Sophie Wang, Matthew Gibson, Tabitha Frey, Erin Couch, Rylee Ackerman, Elizabeth Ghan and Hussain Rao will travel in August with company founder Shawn Askinosie to Tanzania, where the firm sources a portion of its cocoa beans.
Nonprofit Community Foundation of the Ozarks selected 14 area nonprofits to receive roughly $8,200 a piece in matching grant funds while distributing $115,000 to address red-flag issues identified in the 2013 Community Focus report card. Chosen to receive the funds are Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks, Consumer Credit Counseling Service, Council of Churches of the Ozarks, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southwest Missouri, Family Matters Resource Center, Great Circle, Pregnancy Care Center, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Arc of the Ozarks, Child Advocacy Center, Doula Foundation, Victim Center and United Way of the Ozarks.
Stacey James, vice president of James Financial Partners LLC, received the Change Maker Award from the Rotary Club of Springfield Metro. She was honored for her volunteer efforts to assist economically disadvantaged students at McGregor Elementary, a Title I school.
