Accounting
BKD LLP named three auditing staff members as senior accountants. Lyndi Baldwin and Eric Bird, who each hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Missouri State University, are members of the BKD National Financial Services Group. Cody Sapp, a member of the BKD National Health Care Group, earned a bachelor’s in business administration from College of the Ozarks and an MBA from MSU.

Construction
Leo Journagan Construction Co., Branco Enterprises Inc., APAC-Missouri Inc. and Emery Sapp & Sons Inc. were among 15 companies recognized in Missouri Department of Transportation’s annual contractor performance awards.

Education
The Hawthorn Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals named Brent Dunn, vice president for university advancement at MSU, its 2012–13 Executive of the Year. Dunn, who holds a bachelor’s in sociology from MSU and has worked for the university since 1985, helped the school’s foundation raise more than $20 million in gifts during fiscal 2012.

College of the Ozarks agriculture professor Donn Russell was the recipient of the Honorary American FFA Degree at the national Future Farmers of America convention in Indianapolis. The award is the highest honor presented to FFA members. Russell, a member of the organization since 1967 and C of O professor for 13 years, has served on the Missouri’s Joint Staff on Agriculture Education since 2000.

Engineering
Miller Engineering PC named Andy Coleman an engineer in training. Coleman, who holds a bachelor’s in geology from MSU and a bachelor’s in civil engineering from Missouri University of Science & Technology, has worked as an intern at the firm for a year.
 
Government
The city of Springfield hired Zim Schwartze as director of the emergency communications department, which provides 911 services to 21 emergency response agencies across Greene County. She worked previously for 20 years with the city of Columbia in various roles in law enforcement, emergency management and dispatch communications. Schwartze holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Health Care
Nonprofit health care monitoring group The Leapfrog Group awarded Mercy Hospital Springfield and Mercy Hospital Lebanon “A” grades based on preventable medical errors, accidents and infections as part of its grades for hospital systems across the nation. Its grading system uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data.

Cox Medical Center Branson Chief Information Officer Michael Elley received professional certification from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.

Dr. Kenneth Neu, a glaucoma specialist and cataract surgeon with Mattax Neu Prater Eye Center, completed The American Board of Ophthalmology’s 10-year Maintenance of Certification process in seven years. Candidates provide evidence of professional standing, take a closed-book examination that measures clinical knowledge and undergo a review sampling of patient charts to assess practice performance.

CoxHealth named two physicians to its staff. Dr. John Schiffbauer joined CoxHealth’s Pediatric Center. Schiffbauer has 35 years of general practice experience after attending the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and completing a residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Anjum Qureshi joined CoxHealth Occupational Medicine. Qureshi is certified in family medicine and attended medical school at Universidad Iberoamericana in Puerto Rico and completed residency at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago.

Hospitality
Candlewood Suites South General Manager Debra Landsdale was named 2012 General Manager of The Year by InterContinental Hotels Group, and Landsdale’s property earned the Priority Club Excellence Award as the top-ranked hotel out of 303 Candlewood Suites nationwide based on guest surveys. InterContinental Hotels also recognized the Candlewood Suites North with the Torchbearer Award, given to five properties nationwide based on guest satisfaction, cleanliness and performance.

The Tower Club at Hammons Tower named Shelby Williams general manager. Williams, a 10-year hospitality veteran, most recently served as catering manager for University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center.

Insurance
John Liston joined SMI Group, a division of BancorpSouth Insurance, as an agent selling commercial, property and casualty lines. Liston, who holds a bachelor’s degree in management from MSU, has 20 years of insurance industry experience.

Law
The Law Offices of Dee Wampler and Joseph Passanise hired Adam Woody as an attorney. Woody, who practices solely in the area of criminal defense, worked previously for the Missouri Public Defenders Office. Woody received his bachelor’s from Drury and his law degree from MU.

Nonprofit
The Better Business Bureau of Southwest Missouri received the Community Relations award from the Southwest Missouri chapter of Public Relations Society of America.

The American Cancer Society presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to Vickie Hayward, of Republic, for her volunteer leadership with the Republic Relay For Life, Cattle Baron’s Ball of Southwest Missouri and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Hayward was the only recipient of the award from Missouri in 2012.

Recreation
The Branson KOA Campground was awarded the 2013 KOA President’s and Founder’s Awards by Kampgrounds of America Inc. The awards recognize the highest scores in customer service from their campers, as well as top scores in KOA’s annual Quality Review.

Technology
The Computer Recycling Center named Travis Morrison as production manager, responsible for receiving materials, ensuring customer data security and oversight of material recycling. Morrison, who most recently worked for 14 years at Springfield Remanufacturing Corp., holds a bachelor’s degree from Drury and a master’s from Webster University.
