J. Michael Phillips, Steven D. Hufham and James J. Wammack, shareholders in Springeld-based Kirkpatrick, Phillips & Miller CPAs PC, recently returned from the annual meeting of CPA Associates International Inc. The annual meetingwas held Oct. 17-20 in Scottsdale, Ariz.,and covered a broad range of accounting, auditing, tax, consulting and practice-management topics. CPA Associates International Inc. is a worldwide association with 43 members in the United States and 101 members abroad.

Stephanie Newkirk Hall has been named a member of the law rm of Husch & Eppenberger LLC, effective Jan. 1. Hall earned her law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. She practices in the rm's Tax & Estate Planning Practice Group, assisting clients in the development of lifetime planning for specic needs, including nancial, tax, estate, charitable and business. She also prepares analyses and recommendations based on complex estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax issues, including development of complex estate plans. Her duties also include advising corporate clients in tax law.

Husch & Eppenberger LLC was ranked the 169th largest rm in the United States by The American Lawyer in the magazine's August 2004 listing. Rankings are based on rms' 2003 gross revenues. The rm rst appeared on the magazine's 2003 listings, when it was ranked No. 195.

BKD LLP announced several staff additions. David R. Bowden, certied fraud examiner, joined the Springeld ofce of BKD LLP as a senior consultant in the forensics and dispute consulting department. Bowden has 27 years of law enforcement experience with the St. Louis Metropolitan and Springeld Police departments. During his time as a detective, Bowden specialized in fraud and nancial crime. He is a 1980 graduate of Tarkio College, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice management. He also holds a master's degree in accounting from Southwest Missouri State University. In his new position, Bowden provides fraud risk consulting and investigation for businesses.

James R. Ashley; Amy L. Bilyeu; Kristy R. Bork; Juli C. Pasco CPA; Jason K. Rader; and Susan T. Ryan joined BKD LLP's Springeld ofce as staff accountants, assisting with general tax, audit, accounting and consulting engagements.

Ashley is a 2004 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he earned a bachelor of science degree and a master's degree in accountancy.

Bilyeu is a 2004 graduate of Drury University with a bachelor of arts degree in accounting and a master's degree in business administration.

Bork is a 2003 SMSU graduate. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in accounting. In 2004, Bork earned a master's degree in accountancy from SMSU.

Pascoe, a 2004 Drury graduate, holds a bachelor of arts degree in accounting and business administration.

Rader is a 2004 graduate of Southwest Baptist University, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting.

Ryan is a 2003 graduate of SMSU, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting and computer information. In 2004, Ryan earned a master's degree in accountancy from SMSU.

Lathrop & Gage LC announced two staff additions to the rm's Springeld ofce. Kristen B. Roubal joined Lathrop & Gage as an associate. She earned her undergraduate degree in 1996 at Creighton University and her juris doctorate in 1999 from St. Louis University School of Law. Her previous experience includes investigating and prosecuting violations of the Commodity Exchange Act as a trial attorney for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. She also has experience in product liability, commercial, business and securities litigation. In her new position, Roubal's practice is concentrated in business litigation law.

Anthony V. Hall joined Lathrop & Gage as an associate. He earned his undergraduate degree in 1993 from SMSU, his registered nurse degree in 1996 from Burge School of Nursing and his juris doctorate from Creighton University in 2003. Hall's practice is concentrated in medical malpractice law.

Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin LLP announced the addition of two associates to the rm's Springeld ofce. Jennifer R. Growcock joined the rm's litigation department. She received her juris doctorate with honors in 2004 from the University of Nebraska College of Law, and her bachelor of arts degree in 2001 from the University of Iowa. Michael J. Held joined Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin's corporate department. He holds a bachelor of arts degree from SMSU and a master's in business administration from the University of Missouri College of Business. In 2004, Held received his juris doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law.

Clifford S. Brown, a shareholder of Carnahan, Evans, Cantwell & Brown PC, was selected as one of the leading trust and estates attorneys in the United States by The American Lawyer. His recognition will appear in the American Lawyer publication "The Best Lawyers in America," for 2004-05. This is Brown's fourth appearance in the yearly publication, which recognizes the nation's most respected attorneys in their individual practice areas. Brown's practice is concentrated in estate planning, probate and trust litigation. He joined Carnahan, Evans, Cantwell and Brown in 1988.
