His practice areas are catastrophic injury and death litigation, primarily related to car, motorcycle and tractor-trailer wrecks. This is the second consecutive year Ransin was named Best Solo Practitioner.

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill was named 2008 Woman of the Year by the Greater Missouri Leadership Foundation. The award recognizes a Missouri woman who has shown outstanding leadership and has served as a role model and inspiration to other women. In addition to her work as a senator, McCaskill was slected for the honor because of her previous roles as a prosecuting attorney, state legislator and state auditor.
Huey Magoo's opened its second Queen City location; St. Louis-based 4M Building Solutions finalized the purchase of Springfield-based commercial cleaning company Brokate Janitorial; and Draper, Utah-based Zurchers got its local start.
