Clifford S. Brown, Thomas D. Peebles, Jr. and Joseph D. (Chip) Sheppard III of Carnahan, Evans, Cantwell & Brown PC, along with Strong, Garner, Bauer PC attorneys Tom Strong, Steve Garner, Jeff Bauer and Neil Chanter were selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2013. First published in 1983, Best Lawyers is based on a peer-review survey of more than 36,000 attorneys nationwide.

Brown, who holds bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Missouri – Columbia, concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust litigation and related tax matters. Peebles has a bachelor’s from Missouri State University and a law degree from University of Missouri – Kansas City and focuses his practice in the areas of estate and wealth transfer planning and estate and trust administration. Sheppard has a bachelor’s from MSU and a law degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law and practices in the area of arbitration, business, corporate, litigation, mediation, real estate, intellectual property and securities.

Strong has a law degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia and has practiced in Springfield since 1957, founding the firm in 1976. Garner has a bachelor’s from Baylor University and a law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law. He joined Strong, Garner, Bauer PC in 1986 and has been a shareholder since 1990. Bauer earned his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School and practices in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death and product liability. Chanter has a law degree from the University of Wales, College of Cardiff, Great Britain and practices personal injury, wrongful death and product liability litigation.

The Missouri Board of Law Examiners released its latest class of lawyers who have qualified for admission to the Missouri Bar. The list includes eight from Springfield: Tymon Bay, Emilia Calson, Preston Harmon, Brad Miller, Melanie Myears, Jacqueline Oster, Emma Schuering and Ashley Twibell; and two in Ozark, Joshua Barker and Brian Douglas.

According to MBLE, 628 people passed the Missouri Bar examination in July and have completed all requirements for admission, including a juris doctorate degree; a score of at least 80 on the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam; approved by the board after an examination of the applicant’s character and fitness; U.S. citizenship, a permanent resident, or alien otherwise authorized to work in the U.S.; and complete the Missouri Educational Component Test on Missouri law. Roughly 1,000 attorneys are admitted annually including those from other states who apply to the Missouri Bar.
