Dr. Jean Moore, a pediatrician with Mercy Clinic, co-authored an article in The New England Journal of Medicine, addressing hypophosphatasia and enzyme-replacement therapy.

Richard Ollis, president and business risk adviser with Ollis & Co., was appointed to the national board of directors of the Wellness Council of America. Ollis is one of nine directors serving on the board for WelCoA.

Mercy physician Dr. Alexander Hover was named a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association. Fellowships are awarded to AGA members whose accomplishments and contributions demonstrate personal commitment to the gastroenterology field. Hover also was awarded certification in health care quality and patient safety by Northwestern University, based on completion of five courses and research papers.

Mercy awarded $600,000 in charitable grants to community projects in Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas through its Caritas grant program. Springfield-area recipients and grant amounts include: Isabel’s House, $25,500 for equipment and counselors to assist families in crisis; Hope Connection-Community Partnership of the Ozarks, $2,450 to provide birth certificates and bus passes for homeless individuals; and Care to Learn, $9,600 for the purchase of hygiene supplies for school children in Lebanon. Other funding – $50,000 – was shared by rural food pantries in communities including Cassville and Aurora.

Ozarks Community Hospital hired Dr. Salvador Ceniceros, a neuropsychiatrist, to see patients at the system’s Christian County clinic in Nixa and at OCH in Springfield. He is a fellow of the American College of Psychiatry.

OCH hired nurse practitioner Ven Vu, a family practice provider, to work with Dr. Dennis Morrison in the OCH North Specialty Clinic. She earned her bachelor’s in nursing from the Mercy School of Nursing at Southwest Baptist University and a master’s in nursing from the University of Missouri.

OCH Advantage Therapy hired occupational therapist Judith Bone to work with pediatric patients and the Ozark Area Autism Clinic at OCH’s Christian County Clinic. Bone earned her master’s in occupational therapy from Maryville University.

OCH hired Dr. Jason Glass, a psychologist, to see patients in Springfield and at OCH’s Jasper County Clinic in Webb City. He earned his degree at Forest Institute of Professional Psychology with a concentration in neuropsychology.  

The American Heart Association named Ollis & Co. a Platinum-level Fit-Friendly Company in recognition of its employee health improvement efforts, including offering options for physical activity and healthy eating at work; promoting a corporate culture of wellness; and implementing at least nine criteria outlined by AHA in the areas of physical activity, culture and nutrition. To achieve platinum-level recognition, the company also had to demonstrate measurable outcomes.

The CoxHealth Stroke Center was named to the Stroke Honor Roll by the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association and The Joint Commission. The honor is awarded to health systems that consistently treat stroke patients eligible for a drug that can dissolve stroke-causing blood clots in 60 minutes or less from the time they arrive at the hospital. This is the second year in a row CoxHealth has been named to the list.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth received a $5,000 donation from Verizon Wireless as part of the company’s national HopeLine program, which focuses on helping communities in the areas of children’s health, education and prevention of domestic violence.

Skaggs Foundation is one of 14 grant recipients from the Ozark affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which presented the foundation with a $20,000 gift to help fund breast cancer prevention programs at Skaggs Regional Medical Center in Branson.  

Mercy Springfield hired Sonya Kullmann as senior media relations specialist. Kullmann has nearly 20 years of media experience, most recently at KOLR-10.

The CoxHealth Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care Center received a three-year reaccreditation with distinction from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. The accreditation means CoxHealth is in the top 4 percent of centers worldwide for safety, clinical staff expertise and quality care standards.
