Dr. Erich Mertensmeyer joined Mercy Clinic Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery Center. He earned his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville and completed residency training at Freeman Health System in Joplin. Mertensmeyer also provides outreach services in Lebanon.

Dr. Amanda Pearce joined Mercy Clinic Emergency Medicine. She earned her medical degree at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience College of Osteopathic Medicine. Pearce completed her residency at Freeman Health System in Joplin, serving as chief resident.

Mercy Clinic hired Rick Birkner as vice president of hospital-based specialties. He holds a bachelor’s in political science from Oral Roberts University and a master’s in health administration from St. Louis University. With 22 years of health care experience, Birkner most recently served as vice president of Esse Health, an independent primary care group in St. Louis.

The southern Missouri regional board of directors for the Make-A-Wish Foundation named Carter Peters its chairman. Peters is executive vice president and chief financial officer of Guaranty Federal Bancshares Inc. and Guaranty Bank. Peters also sits on the state governing board for the foundation and is chairman of the executive leadership team for the Walk for Wishes campaign, which helps the Make-A-Wish Foundation grant wishes for sick children.

Dr. Roland Petry joined Mercy Clinic Emergency Medicine. He earned his medical degree at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago and completed a residency at University of Florida-Jacksonville, serving as chief resident in his final year. Petri also completed a fellowship in critical care and aero medical transport at Stanford University.

Dr. William Chism joined Mercy Clinic Eye Specialists-Optometry.  He is a graduate of Southern College of Optometry-Memphis and also earned his Missouri diagnostic therapeutic ocular pharmaceutical license from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Dr. Roger Cady, founder of the Headache Care Center, Clinvest and Primary Care Education Network, was chosen as the recipient of the 2012 Alumni Achievement Award from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Cady earned a bachelor’s from Drake’s College of Liberal Arts before completing his medical degree at Mayo School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn. The Alumni Achievement Award recognizes alumni for outstanding career achievement.

U.S. News & World Report listed CoxHealth among the nation’s Best Regional Hospitals 2011–12. CoxHealth is one of 247 hospitals outside of major metropolitan areas to be recognized by the publication as a high performer in at least one medical specialty.
