The firm had two projects chosen for publication in the American School Board Journal for its 2004 Learning by Design feature. Each spring, projects that showcase exemplary school design solutions are chosen from across the continent for publication. The two Sapp projects chosen were Century Elementary School in Nixa and Central High School in Springfield. The Nixa school is a new early childhood through fourth-grade facility, and Central High School is an historic renovation/addition that resulted in a state-of-the-art 21st century learning facility. |ret||ret||tab|
The Library Station at 2535 N. Kansas Expressway, was recognized by StarNet, a national cooperative of commercial flooring installers and manufacturers, with the Grand Prize Award in the unique installation category. James C. Stufflebeam, AIA, of Sapp Design Associates, and Larry Van Rhein, of the Wm. J. Zickel Co. of Springfield, attended StarNet's annual convention in Florida and received the award. The award recognized the exceptional design solution for the flooring of the lobby entrance, which incorporates a map of Route 66 into a linoleum floor pattern that is reminiscent of the tile pattern in the Harvey House restaurant in the old Springfield train depot, which was demolished in 1977. The flooring design reinforces the library's transportation theme. The award also recognizes the contractor's challenges of installing the flooring design onto a badly damaged existing concrete slab in the library facility, which was previously a furniture store. |ret||ret||tab|
