Architecture
Sapp Design Associates Architects PC hired 17-year architect Brad McKenzie and added architectural interns Ben Hall, Devon Swatzell and Nick Beishir. Hall attended Drury University’s Hammons School of Architecture and served seven years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Swatzell and Beishir each hold master’s in architecture from Drury.

Sapp Design’s Michael Hampton passed the state exam and received his Missouri architectural license.

Banking
BancorpSouth promoted Jay Titus to Springfield market president, succeeding the retiring Dave Kunze. With 20 years of financial industry experience, Titus previously served BancorpSouth as an executive vice president. He has a bachelor’s in business administration from Drury University and graduated from Pacific Coast Banking School in Seattle. In conjunction with Titus’ promotion, BancorpSouth expanded the responsibilities of Senior Vice President Casey Pyle to include the role of head of lending in Springfield. A 16-year banker, Pyle has earned a bachelor’s in agriculture business from Missouri State University, an MBA from Webster University and completed graduate banking school at Louisiana State University.

Government
Gov. Jay Nixon’s Show-Me Heroes program recognized several area organizations for hiring veterans. Receiving the Flag of Freedom Award were Route 66 CDL and Apprenticeship Inc., Wildcat Tool Rental Inc., FBN Metal Products Inc., Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Cabinet-Mart Inc., Ozark Chamber of Commerce, K.C.’s Colors Inc. and Leggett & Platt Inc.

Education
Diana Botsford, MSU media, journalism and film faculty member, received the 2013 Higher Education Educator Award from the Missouri Distance Learning Association.

The Kern Family Foundation Inc. awarded a $199,432 grant to the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary to support integration of the theology of work and economics into educational programs.

The National School Public Relations Association honored Nixa Public Schools’ Staff Communicator internal e-newsletter with an Award of Excellence and its QuickNews external e-newsletter with an Award of Merit during the group’s annual Publications and Electronic Media Contest.

Health Care
Dr. Derek Magers joined Dorman Family Dental as an associate dentist. Magers is a graduate of University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry.

Citizens Memorial Healthcare was recognized among the 100 Most Wired hospitals and health systems in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.
The annual survey measures the level of information technology adoption nationwide.

Hospitality
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites-Medical District, managed by Rolling Oaks Hospitality Inc., received TripAdvisor.com’s Certificate of Excellence, recognizing the top 10 percent of traveler reviews.

Insurance
David Arney, president and CEO of Branson-based Akers & Arney, attended the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents 2013 leadership conference in Osage Beach. More than 350 Missouri agents attended the conference, which taught leadership skills for agent owners, department and sales managers and advisers.

Technology
Randy Baker joined Layer 3 Technology as marketing director. He has 17 years of experience in the office equipment industry, including stints at Corporate Business Systems and Office Concepts. Baker also is membership chairman of the Association of IT Professionals’ southwest Missouri chapter.
