Distribution UniPro Foodservice Inc. named Springfield Grocer Co. as the 2012 Member of the Year at its spring conference in Phoenix. The company, which markets more than 10,000 nationally branded products and delivers to clients in a 250-mile radius of Springfield, received the award out of 650 food-service distributors nationwide.
Education Several faculty and alumni from Evangel University and Assemblies of God Theological Seminary served as presenters and panelists for the Society for Pentecostal Studies’ annual meeting in Seattle. Christopher Freeman, adjunct culinary arts instructor at College of the Ozarks and Keeter Center kitchen supervisor, received the People’s Choice award at the Springfield/Branson Taste of Elegance competition and dinner. Ten area chefs were asked to prepare pork entrees for the event’s 300 guests, who then voted on the winner.
The National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute renewed a $328,187 grant to four Missouria State University faculty for their research of anti-cancer ribonucleic acid coagulates. The funding was provided to biomedical sciences professors Richard Garrad and Robert Delong, physics, astronomy and materials science professor Kartik Ghosh, and chemistry associate professor Adam Wanekaya.

Government Greene County Associate Commissioner Roseann Bentley was honored by the Missouri Art Education Association with the 2013 Otto Bean Jr. Arts Advocacy Award. Bentley, a former state senator and the first woman to serve on the Springfield Board of Education, was recognized for community service and philanthropy in arts education.
