Morgan Stanley named Ken Roberts vice president and financial adviser with The Layman Group. Roberts, a chartered retirement plan consultant with 19 years of experience, specializes in 401(k)s and corporate retirement plans for small businesses.
Education Southwest Baptist University presented honorary doctorates to SBU first lady Judy Taylor, wife of president Pat Taylor, and Jeffrey Brown, a licensed psychologist and assistant clinical professor at Harvard Medical School.
Taylor has taught English as a second language in China, Hungary, Brazil and Russia. Brown earned a bachelor’s in psychology and sociology in 1992 from SBU, and a master’s in psychology in 1994 from the University of Central Missouri-Warrensburg.
SBU named Kevin Schriver dean of the College of Education and Social Sciences, effective Aug. 1.
Schriver, an SBU graduate who holds a master’s in clinical psychology from Central Missouri State University and a doctorate in clinical psychology from The School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute, was employed for five years with the state’s Department of Mental Health before teaching at SBU.
Government The city of Nixa named Dan Dunbar an information services technician. Dunbar has 20 years of information technology experience, most recently with Freedom Network Services in Nixa. He holds a bachelor’s in network and communications management from DeVry University in Kansas City and received telecommunications training in the U.S. Army.
Health Care Dr. James Bureman, who is the managing member for Missouri Eye Institute LLC in Springfield, Branson and Joplin, was appointed to the Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry’s Clinical Competence Committee and the American Optometric Association’s Accreditation Council on Optometric Education.
Insurance The National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors in Springfield named Employee Benefit Design adviser Torrey Amstutz the 2012 Advisor of the Year. Amstutz has 18 years of experience, mostly with Aflac.
NAIFA also recognized Amy Kern of Kern Insurance Services with the 2012 Judy Sorenson Memorial Award for community service efforts.
Marketing DL Media added Rhonda Schuller in sales and business development and Erin Rex in the client services division. Schuller has 13 years of experience in sales and marketing development and promotional product lines. Rex, who earned an MBA with a marketing specialization from Missouri University of Science & Technology, has four years of marketing and communications experience.
Nonprofit Cheryl Clay, City Utilities’ department administrator for electric transmission and distribution, joined the board of directors for Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland.
