Education Jason Streubel, an associate professor of biology at Evangel University, received the 2013 Regius Award from his alma mater, Northwest University. He was recognized for demonstrating the integration of faith and vocation.
Don Johns, Evangel’s associate dean of the School of Theology and Church Ministries, was selected by the Higher Learning Commission to serve on its Institutional Actions Council. The group reviews and takes actions on the majority of the commission’s accreditation recommendations.
The George Reidel Foundation provided a $10,000 scholarship grant to the Missouri Colleges Fund to benefit its 16 member schools, including Drury, Evangel and Southwest Baptist universities.
Government City Utilities of Springfield received the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association’s Citation Award for its years of partnership with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. The award recognized long-term agreements for development of Lake Springfield Park, Valley Water Mill Park, Dan Kinney Park and several Ozark Greenways trails on CU property.
Sen. Mike Parson, R-Bolivar, was appointed chairman of the Committee on Small Business, Insurance and Industry by the president pro tem of the Missouri Senate.
Health Care Springfield-Greene County Health Department ranked 40th in Missouri out of 114 counties for county and regional health departments in a study conducted by The Robert Wood Foundation. Last year, it was ranked No. 45.

Media Jennifer Davidson, a senior news producer for KSMU public radio, won honorable mention for the Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting. Covering the rural Ozarks, the judges noted Davidson’s series on Medicaid expansion in 2013.
Luke Treat was named news director for Hometown Daily News and Earls Family Broadcasting. Treat joined Earls Family Broadcasting as a reporter and previously worked at KCAU in Sioux City, Iowa, KOLR10 and Ozarks News Journal.
Nonprofit The Doula Foundation appointed three new board members: Malinda Owens, the director of human resources at PlayPower Inc.; Cindy Whitten, vice president of Mercy Children’s Hospital and Women’s Services; and Mary Ellison, the WIC coordinator for the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.
Real Estate The Greater Springfield Board of Realtors named Antonio Serrano of Assist 2 Sell the 2013 Realtor Broker of the Year and Laura Daly of Murney Associates, Realtors the Realtor Salesperson of the Year. Annual honors also went to Murney’s Andy Trussell, Rookie of the Year, and Linda Brown of Carol Jones Realtors for the Margaret Martin Cooperative Spirit Award.
