Nancy Ruyle, president and CEO of Citizens Bank of Rogersville, was elected treasurer of the Independent Community Bankers of America during the 2012 ICBA national convention in Nashville, Tenn. The trade association promotes the interests of locally operated community banks and savings institutions.
Stacey Penney, a financial adviser with Penney, Murray & Associates, an advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services Inc., earned the certified financial planner designation. Penney must meet ongoing continuing education requirements and uphold the code of ethics and professional responsibility developed by the Certified Financial Planning Board of Standards Inc.
Commerce Bank donated $16,000 to the Missouri Colleges Fund for scholarships at member institutions, including Evangel, Drury and Southwest Baptist universities.
Education Missouri State University biology professor Chris Barnhart received a $40,946 grant from Marrone Bio Innovations to test the effects of an organic pesticide the company developed on freshwater mussels.
Engineering Ron Mersch joined Olsson Associates Inc. as office leader in Springfield. Mersch, who most recently worked as city administrator and economic development director for the city of Bolivar, manages the office’s nine teams and develops the firm’s client relationships.
Government Rudy Farber, chairman of the board of Community Bank & Trust in Neosho, was appointed to a one-year term as chairman of the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission. Farber, who was first selected to the commission in March 2007, leads the six-member bipartisan group that governs the Missouri Department of Transportation.
The Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers Association named Springfield City Clerk Brenda Cirtin as the 2012 Outstanding City Clerk. Cirtin, a former president of the organization and a member since 1986, has worked as Springfield city clerk since 1993 and has designations of certified municipal clerk, master municipal clerk and Missouri professional city clerk.
Roddy Rogers, City Utilities of Springfield manager of water treatment and supply, received the 2012 Kramer Award from the Missouri Section of the American Water Works Association. The award – Rogers’ fourth from the association since 1997 – recognizes a paper he authored as a significant contribution to the industry.
Hospitality Ramada Oasis Hotel & Convention Center promoted Jennifer Schulz to convention center manager and hired Brad Duncan as front office manager and Holly Harralson as catering sales manager.
Tim Moulder, director of sales for Sweet Magnolia Tours in Branson, was appointed to the National Tour Association Board of Directors.
Manufacturing SRC Power Systems made three staff changes. Jack Reidle was promoted to supply chain manager from an accounting manager, with responsibilities including strategic management of the warehouse, purchasing and production scheduling. Tyler Hesser was promoted to accounting manager from staff accountant, with duties including creating strategic cash and income plans and providing financial education for employee owners. Timothy Pistole was hired as engineering and quality systems manager. Responsibilities include developing new products and branding.
John Waldo of Askinosie Chocolate was honored by the American Society for Quality as a certified Six Sigma black belt. The designation recognizes Waldo, who is in his fifth year with Askinosie Chocolate, for facilitating Six Sigma projects to improve cost, quality and cycle time.
Nonprofit Janet Akers, account executive at Corporate Business Systems, was named 2012 ambassadors chairwoman for the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau. The chamber also named two new ambassadors: Jenna Jackson of Liberty Bank and Rod Glaze of Service First.

Retail Askinosie Chocolate educator Mallory Roth received lead instructor certification with the Specialty Coffee Association of America after successfully completing the Instructor Development Program in Portland, Ore.
Retirement Planning Kraig Bode, a financial adviser with Penney, Murray and Associates, a private advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial, earned the professional designation of chartered retirement planning counselor from The College of Financial Planning. Bode completed course requirements including examinations in retirement planning, personal savings, employer-sponsored plans and preparing for disability and long-term care.
Service Wood Re New was one of roughly 70 companies to receive the Gold Star Award from the Better Business Bureau of Southwest Missouri. The award recognized BBB-accredited companies that had not received any complaints for the three-year period ending Dec. 31, 2011.
