Architecture
Andrew Wells of Dake Wells Architecture was one of 105 architects this year named to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows. Members are elected by a peer jury for contributions to architecture and society. Only 3,000 AIA members out of 80,000 have been named to the College of Fellows.

Education
Michael Whitley, director of development in the office of development and alumni relations at Missouri State University, received a 2012 Young Leader Award from the St. Louis American Foundation. The awards are presented annually to 20 black professionals age 40 and younger from the St. Louis region for their career and community performance.

MSU appointed Gloria Galanes interim dean of the College of Arts and Letters. Galanes succeeds Carey Adams, who accepted a position as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Armstrong Atlantic State College in Savannah, Ga. Galanes, a professor of communication and a faculty member at MSU since 1986, will begin July 1.

Christopher Craig was named associate provost for faculty and academic affairs for MSU after serving as director of the School of Education and Child Development at Drury University the last three years. Craig’s responsibilities include working with MSU’s General Education Task Force and managing tenure and promotion processes and other faculty-related issues. Prior to his service at Drury, Craig worked at MSU for 15 years, most recently as associate provost for faculty.

Government
The U.S. Department of Defense awarded the Seven Seals Award to Branson entertainer Tony Orlando for his work on behalf of National Guard and Reserve members. Seven Seals is the highest award presented to civilians.

Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Charlotte Haden as public administrator for Cedar County. Haden, who also held the position of Stockton school board president for 12 years, fills the role vacated by Janice Cagle.

Health Care
Cox College named Dennis Edwards its vice president for academic affairs. Edwards brings to the position experience from University of Illinois, University of New Mexico, Forrest Institute and Drury University. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work, a master’s degree in recreation therapy and a Ph.D. in educational leadership.

Hospitality
Panera Bread awarded Branson café General Manager Kyle Johnson with a Mother Bread Award at an annual meeting in Washington, D.C. The award is the company’s highest honor for individuals who represent the Panera brand. Johnson began his career with Panera franchisee Traditional Bakery Inc. in 2000 and has served as a general manager for Panera since 2008.

O’Reilly Hospitality Management LLC received the 2011 Hospitality Award from the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau at the annual Salute to Travel and Tourism Awards in Jefferson City. The award is presented to an attraction, lodging facility or restaurant that demonstrates outstanding hospitality to the traveling public and helps to promote growth of the Springfield area through travel and tourism.

Insurance
Justin French, a commercial lines producer for Barker-Phillips-Jackson Inc. since 2005, was elected to the company’s board of directors. French earned his bachelor’s degree from Drury University.

Nonprofit
The Better Business Bureau of Southwest Missouri awarded Rick’s Automotive and Success Naturally with the Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics. Rick’s Automotive received the award in the medium category for companies with six to 39 employees; Success Naturally received the honor in the small category, one to five employees.

Wish I May appointed six board members: Judy Jowett, formerly with Camp Quality and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks; Denise LeBolt of Clear Channel Broadcasting; Barby Pohl of Great Southern Bank; Gena Wells of Kirkpatrick, Phillips & Miller, CPAs; Nancy Wicks, formerly with Springfield Public Schools; and Julie Brady of JT MedStaff.

The Child Advocacy Center Inc. named four officers and three board members at its annual meeting. Newly elected officers are Kathy Griesemer, president; Skip Motsenbocker, vice president; John McKaig, treasurer; and Leon Gregston, secretary. New board members are Sydney Guilliams, Erin Lurvey and Katie Moore.

Child Advocacy Center also hired Patricia Webb as its medical provider for sexual assault forensic exams and child at-risk exams. Webb, who was hired full-time after completing her doctoral degree at MSU, has served the center on a contract basis since 2004.

Real Estate
Brent Cantrell, a Realtor with The Cantrell Group at Keller Williams, received the Internet marketing specialist designation from Market Leader Inc. The program specializes in real estate marketing techniques online, including search engines, social media channels and CraigsList.org.[[In-content Ad]]
