Banking and Finance Stephanie Murphy joined Guaranty Bank as an assistant vice president and small-business banking officer. Murphy has worked seven years in banking, previously in the same position at Commerce Bank.
BancorpSouth hired Christina Craig and Connie Rush as vice presidents. Craig has 20 years of financial industry experience, including private banking, investments, insurance and retail banking. Rush has 30 years of sales and management experience, mainly in commercial banking.
Liberty Bank promoted Kris Nau, Shane Strahl and Clint Caffey to senior vice presidents. All commercial lenders, Nau began his career in banking in 1997 and joined Liberty in 2010; Strahl has 24 years of banking experience and started working with Liberty in 1997; and Caffey began his banking career in 2003 and joined Liberty in 2012.
Education Three Nixa Public Schools teachers were recognized with awards for excellence in serving children during their first two years of service at the spring conference of the Missouri Association for Colleges of Teacher Education. Kristen Johnson of Inman Intermediate School, Fernando Sustaita of Nixa Junior High School and Blaine Broderick of Summit Intermediate School were among 61 teachers honored statewide.
Missouri State University received a Missouri Innovation Campus grant of $185,000 from the Hospitality Leadership Academy. The funds are intended to reduce the expense and time in earning bachelor’s degrees in high-demand professions.
The Accounting Degree Review listed MSU’s accounting programs in the top five schools for affordability. The graduate program ranked No. 2 on the review website, while the undergraduate program ranked No. 4.

Missouri Lawyers Weekly named Virginia Fry as the 2015 Woman of the Year for the April 30 Women’s Justice Awards. Fry of Husch Blackwell LLP is the first Springfield attorney to receive the award. She serves on the firm’s health care, life sciences and education industry teams and is an experienced litigator in federal and state courts in a variety of areas.
Retail MissouriSourceLink selected The Baglady Boutique in Springfield and The Cutting Edge in Buffalo among 41 companies in its bracket-style competition called Battle of the Brands to name top champion of Missouri Entrepreneurship. The goal of the competition is to promote Missouri-made brands. Companies advanced in the competition based on public votes. The Baglady Boutique was knocked out in the round of 32, and The Cutting Edge made it to the competition’s final four.
