Terri West McQueary was named the 2005 advisory committee president for Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. Others appointed to three-year terms were Jim Street, first vice president, Charlotte Hardin, second vice president, Buffy Butler, Tac Caplan and J. Howard Fisk.

Banking

Matt McFail was promoted to assistant controller and security officer for The Signature Bank. McFail has five years of banking experience and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration from Drury University.

Education

Kelley Still, Drury University associate professor of accounting, received an Outstanding Advising Certificate of Merit from the National Academic Advising Association. The award will be presented at the annual NACADA conference in Las Vegas Oct. 5.

Computer and information science students from Southwest Baptist University claimed several prizes at the Association for Information Technology Professionals National Collegiate Conference April 7–9 in Atlanta. Scott McCarter won first place in the undergraduate research papers competition and first place in the PC/LAN/gaming competition. The team of Pamela Clodfelter and Daniel Miller earned second place in the Java programming competition. Clodfelter also received an honorable mention in the undergraduate research papers category. The team of Jeff Reed and Jeremy Matheny received honorable mention in network design.

Government

Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt appointed two southwest Missouri businesspeople to state boards and commissions. Ervin Dock, of Springfield, was appointed to the Missouri Board of Examiners for Hearing Instrument Specialists. Dock is president and CEO of Hearing Aid Specialties Inc. in Springfield. Mark J. Garnett, of West Plains, was appointed to the Air Conservation Commission. Garnett is vice president and general manager of Garnett Wood Products Co., Barndsville.

Medical

Lawrence Dybedock, M.D., joined Mt. Vernon Family Health Care. Dybedock earned his medical degree from the University of Sint Eustatius School of Medicine in Chicago and completed his residency and fellowship in family practice at the University of Missouri. Dybedock is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Practice.

Retail

Murfin’s Market in Ozark won the Excellence in Merchandising Award for having the most outstanding produce department among more than 1,400 supermarkets served by Associated Wholesale Grocers. The award is presented to one supermarket a year. The award, based on the store’s themed displays, was presented at AWG’s annual shareholder meeting in March.

The Nixa Wal-Mart Supercenter is donating 10 smoke alarms a month to the Nixa Fire Protection District. The fire department is installing the smoke alarms in Nixa residences at no charge to homeowners.

Sports

Gail Fredrick, Paul Mullins and Jim Vaughan were named to the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame during its annual banquet and induction ceremony April 19 at University Plaza Convention Center. Fredrick is second on the Drury University career rebounding list and 12th in career scoring. Mullins has more than 35 years of high school coaching experience, including 25 years coaching football, basketball, golf and tennis at Greenwood Laboratory School. Vaughan, head coach of Hillcrest High School’s track and cross-country teams, has more than 42 years of coaching experience.

Technology

Darren Henderson, CEO of Springfield-based software company Ion Wave Technologies, was invited to speak on electronic procurement strategies at these upcoming conferences: SciQuest Next Level in Florida; Texas’ Lone Star Conference; the Florida Association of Public Purchasing Officers in Jacksonville, Fla.; the National Association of Educational Buyers in Utah; and the National Purchasing Institute in Orlando, Fla.

Utility

Roddy Rogers, manager of water distribution for City Utilities, received the 2005 Dr. Kramer Award from the Missouri Section of the American Water Works Association at its annual conference in Springfield April 5–8. The award recognizes Rogers’ paper on the reinforcement of Valley Water Mill Dam.
