Kirkpatrick Phillips & Miller, CPAs, PC added three new members to its staff. Jared Franz is a staff accountant. He is responsible for assisting small-business clients with accounting services, financial reporting, payroll and taxes. Donald Hannay was hired as KPM’s new controller, overseeing the firm’s financial accounting and financial management. Jeff Wright is a supervisor with the firm, working primarily out of the Branson office. His duties include planning and supervising engagements.
Architecture
Butler, Rosenbury & Partners added three people to its staff. Jenny Hopkins and John Torgerson joined the retail/entertainment studio as intern architects. Hopkins has eight years of experience working for design firms in Joplin and Rogers, Ark., while Torgerson has six years’ experience with other local design firms. Katrina Hickman also joined the company as an interior design intern in the interior design studio. She will graduate in May from Missouri State University.
Community
Arc of the Ozarks added Sheri Lupton to its staff as the agency’s new controller. Lupton has been performing accounting duties in the nonprofit sector for 15 years, and she also has experience in public accounting. She received a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1988.
Ozarks Food Harvest announced four new officers for its 2005-2006 Board of Directors. Mike Mattson of Liberty Bank is president, Mindy Spitz of Panera Bread is vice president, Bob Lawson Jr. of Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin is secretary and Chad Young of Allied Insurance is treasurer.
Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southwest Missouri received a $2,457 grant from Target Stores of America. The grant will fund educational outreach for the organization, including costs associated with the agency’s quarterly newsletter and Web site. It’s the second year that Target has awarded a grant to CASA of Southwest Missouri.
Ken Coleman, formerly regional vice president of Boys & Girls Town for the southwest region of Missouri, north Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma, was posthumously given the Child Welfare Champion Award by the Missouri Coalition of Children’s Agencies. During his tenure, the Springfield campus built the $2 million Ozarks Family Resource Center, and Coleman was also active in several children’s rights groups, including the National Fellowship of Child Care Executives and the Child Welfare League of America.
Education
Drury University appointed Peter Radecki as vice president of institutional advancement. Radecki oversees the university development, alumni relations and university communications. He previously served as executive director of corporate services at Michigan Technical University in Houghton, Mich.
David Hough, dean of the MSU College of Education, and Christopher Craig, associate dean, were awarded a $153,582 grant from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The grant was for Project Access, which assists local education agency personnel serving students with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders. Craig and Aundrayah Shermer also received $70,000 from DESE for the Blind Skills Specialist Project, used for schools serving blind and visually impaired children.
Government
Webster County Clerk Stanley D. Whitehurst of Marshfield was named to the Missouri Community Safety Commission by Gov. Matt Blunt. Whitehurst holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Tulsa. His appointment, subject to Senate confirmation, is for a term ending Dec. 12, 2007.
Health Care
Clarke Orthopedic Clinic completed the office-based surgical facility accreditation survey from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The organization’s extensive survey process is meant to ensure that facilities are in line with the latest standards for quality of care and patient safety.
Law
Two partners at Whitlock, Selim & Keehn LLP were selected to serve on committees with PKF North American Network, a membership association comprising 92 independent accounting and consulting firms.
