Peggy King of Peggy King Advertising in Republic received the 2005 Republic Area Chamber of Commerce Business Member of the Year Award at the chamber’s annual awards banquet. King was recognized for her leadership, volunteerism, innovative ideas and enthusiasm in supporting the chamber.

Architecture

Jeremy Cook was added to the staff of Sapp Design Associates Architects PC as an architecture intern. Cook, a project team member for building projects on the campus of Evangel University, earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Drury University’s Hammons School of Architecture in 2002. He has experience in retail design.

Josh Harrold joined Dake|Wells Architecture as an intern architect. A 2002 graduate of the Hammons School of Architecture at Drury University, Harrold has experience in projects of all sizes. He is responsible for design, visualization and documentation of church and school projects for the firm.

Banking

Ryan Rost was appointed business banking relationship manager for Regions Bank’s Springfield region. Rost, whose office is in the bank’s Glenstone branch, has experience in mortgage processing. He earned his finance degree from Missouri State University in 1997.

Eldon Erwin joined Liberty Bank as senior vice president of commercial lending. Erwin has more than 30 years of banking experience in southwest Missouri, including time as president of Mid-Missouri Bancshares. He specializes in commercial, industrial and real estate lending and holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Missouri Southern State University.

Community

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks announced its 2006 Executive Committee. Jeannie Horton of SLS International is president, Paul Sheehan of Kraft Foods is president-elect, Rob Bratcher of Bank of America is vice president, Jim Robeson of 3M is secretary, and Gena Wells of KPM CPAs is treasurer. The organization also added Dana Montgomery of Commerce Bank to its board of directors. Jo Thompson also joined the group as capacity coordinator.

At a recent annual banquet, the Table Rock Lake Area Chamber of Commerce named Robert Powell Community Volunteer of the Year and awarded Debra Williams its Community Service Award. Powell has spent the last several years volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Christian Associates Thrift Store and Stone County Council on Aging. Williams is a Kimberling City optometrist who offered complimentary vision screenings for young children and volunteered to give educational presentations in schools and community health fairs in Stone and Taney counties.

Education

Randall Fuller, associate professor of English at Drury, received publishing approval for his manuscript, “The Haunting of American Literature: Emerson and the Critical Imagination.” Slated to be published by Oxford University Press this year, the book offers a new way to interpret the work of philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Government

Gov. Matt Blunt appointed Springfield Mayor Tom Carlson to the Missouri Health and Educational Facilities Authority. The authority works to lower the cost of health and educational services in Missouri through low-cost financing alternatives for nonprofit health and educational institutions.

Gov. Matt Blunt appointed Rick Muenks of Rick J. Muenks, Attorney at Law to the Missouri Real Estate Appraisers Commission. Muenks is also a managing member of Southwest Valuation LLC.

Steve Cope joined the staff of the city of Joplin as the city’s new building and code enforcement supervisor. Cope has worked as a building inspector for the city of Grandview for more than three years. He has several professional certifications, including residential building inspector, residential electrical inspector, residential combination inspector, residential plumbing inspector and residential mechanical inspector.

Joel Pottinger, director of the Lake of the Ozarks Convention and Visitors Bureau, was inducted into the Missouri Tourism Hall of Fame during the 37th annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism.

Other honors went to former Lt. Gov. Joe Maxwell of Mexico for the Legislative Award, Springfield Regional Arts Council for the Pathfinder Award and Tracy Kimberlin, executive director of the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau, as a Tourism Ambassador.

Health Care

Doctors Hospital hired neurologist Dr. Kenneth Sharlin to work in the hospital’s Springfield and Nixa clinics. Sharlin will offer complete neurological evaluation, management and procedures. His areas of interest include neuromuscular disease, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, migraine and multiple sclerosis.

Insurance

Roy W. Kern of Roy W. Kern & Associates was awarded a 2005 National Sales Achievement Award from Long-Term Care Insurance Sales Strategies magazine. The award recognizes the nation’s leading long-term care insurance specialists.

Law

Carnahan, Evans, Cantwell & Brown PC had four attorneys selected as Missouri-Kansas Super Lawyers by Law & Politics Magazine. The four – C. Bradford Cantwell, Clifford S. Brown, Joseph D. Sheppard III and Thomas D. Peebles – were selected through ballots sent to 25,000 active lawyers in Missouri and Kansas who have been practicing law for at least five years.

Christopher S. Hatley was promoted to assistant district defender in the Springfield Public Defenders Office.

Media

Katie Pollock was named assistant editor at 417 Magazine. She also helps oversee 417 Bride, Encore! and 417 Home specialty magazines published twice a year.

Pollock joined 417 after working as an assistant at national men’s magazine Maxim and as the editor of Vox, a weekly entertainment tabloid in Columbia. She has a master’s degree in magazine journalism from University of Missouri-Columbia.
