Springfield City Council approved several appointments to city boards at its June 26 meeting. Bruce Chrisope and Cherri Jones were reappointed to the Springfield-Greene County Library Board, with terms to expire July 1, 2009. William Ladd was appointed to the Public Housing Authority, with a term to expire April 11, 2010.

Human Resources

Lynne Haggerman, president of human-resource-consulting firm Haggerman & Associates, spoke at the Society of Human Resource Management Annual Conference and Exposition June 24–28 in Washington, D.C. She was one of 150 professionals selected to speak at the conference. Haggerman has a master’s degree in industrial organization and psychology, and she is a regular columnist in the Springfield Business Journal along with the journals in Dallas and Tulsa, Okla.

Insurance

Ed Messerly, vice president of information and general services for American National Property and Casualty in Springfield, retired from his post June 30. He supervised a staff of 145, and had been with the company since 1975.

Law

Branson attorney Tom Motley was reappointed to a two-year term as the Branson Municipal Court judge by the Branson Board of Aldermen. For his services, Motley will receive $33,800 annually, plus $325 for each trial session held outside the regular weekly court dockets.

Springfield attorney David Ransin received the Distinguished Service Award from the Missouri Bar Solo and Small Firm Committee during its annual conference. Ransin is a sole practitioner, focusing his practice in the areas of catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death litigation.

Manufacturing

Classic Trailer Inc. named J. Isaac Wheeler vice president and general manager. Wheeler has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Drury University. He previously served as western U.S. regional sales manager for IC Corp., a subsidiary of International Truck and Engine. Classic Trailer Inc. provides trailer repair and custom fabrication.

Marketing

The International Academy of the Visual Arts selected George J. Lamelza III, CEO of Team Media LLC, to judge this year’s W3 and Davey Awards. The awards recognize excellence in Web marketing and from small agencies, respectively. Lamelza is a 1994 graduate of Evangel University.

Sales

Dan Machnicki joined Kingsley Group/Business Brokers Unlimited as a broker. Machnicki, an international management consultant, has owned and operated three Missouri-based businesses, covering executive recruiting, construction and contract consulting, in addition to consulting throughout Europe and the United States.

Springfield-based Ridewell Suspensions added Eric Smith to its staff. Smith is the company’s north central regional sales manager; his territory includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Michigan. Prior to joining Ridewell, Smith was a regional sales manager for Hutchens Industries in Springfield.

Security

Jim L. Morris, president of American Detection Specialists Inc., was elected president of the Missouri Burglar & Fire Alarm Association. Morris will serve a two-year term for the association, which represents security-company interests in the state legislature and provides training.

Utilities

Layne Morrill was elected president of KAMO Power at the group’s annual meeting in Tulsa. KAMO Electric Cooperative Inc. is a generation and transmission cooperative serving 17 member distribution cooperatives in southwest Missouri and northeast Oklahoma. Morrill also is president of Shepherd of the Hills, Realtors, in Kimberling City.
