James Couch joined Pellham Phillips Architects and Engineers as a design visualization specialist. Couch, who recently completed the requirements for an associate degree in drafting and design at Ozarks Technical Community College, is responsible for 3-D renderings of client projects.

Arts

Decorize designer J. Michael Sandel received the Designer of the Year award at the annual ARTS Award ceremony in Dallas. The annual program honors outstanding achievement in retailing, manufacturing sales representation and product design.

Banking

Guaranty Bank promoted Chandler Johnston to corporate services account manager from business-banking representative and Robin Marshall to corporate services assistant from personal banking representative at the bank’s National Avenue branch.

Communications

Wendy Morlan, graphics supervisor in corporate communications at Associated Electric Cooperative, was appointed to a one-year term on the national board of directors of the Association of Women in Communications. Morlan, an AWC member for 17 years, has worked in the utility industry since 1978.

The Southwest Missouri Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America elected new officers to its board of directors: Rod Surber, Missouri Southern State University, president; Sandy Poneleit, BKD LLP, president-elect; Pamela Anderson, CenturyTel, immediate past president; Eric Eckert, Missouri State University, secretary; and Claire Faucett, Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, treasurer.

Community

Ozarks Regional YMCA elected officers to its board of directors. Deb Scott, commercial real estate agent with Wilhoit Properties and a 14-year YMCA member, is board president. Susie Turner, information technology business consultant for City Utilities, is president-elect. Chuck Chalender, American Family Insurance agent, is secretary. Pat Shivers, sales associate with Murney Associates and former senior vice president and corporate controller for John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts, is treasurer.

Watershed Committee of the Ozarks announced several staff changes. Erin Hutchinson and Jennifer Wilhoit joined the staff as projects assistants, Kyle Kosovich was named as the staff’s Ameri-Corps volunteer, and Kelly Guenther was hired as office manager. Also, Matt Keener was promoted to operations manager and Mike Kromrey was promoted to education/outreach coordinator.

Education

A book review by Josh Compton, department chair and assistant professor of communication at Southwest Baptist University, was published in a recent issue of the Journal of Communication.
