Butler, Rosenbury & Partners promoted four staff members. Angie Way serves as chief financial officer and has been with the company for nearly three years. Rufus Louderback is an architect in the business-to-business studio and has been with company for more than nine years. Ben Van Eps is a member of the hospitality studio and has been with Butler, Rosenbury & Partners for eight years. Ron McDonald serves as the information technology systems manager and has been with the company for more than six years.

Banking

Bank of America Mortgage Division added two employees to its Springfield division. Kelly Smillie is responsible for mortgage lending duties to clients throughout southwest Missouri. She has a marketing degree from Missouri State University. Melinda Howell is responsible for marketing and loan generation duties. She has 11 years of experience with Bank of America.

Communications

Dee Dee Nilsen was promoted to online editor of Springfield Business Journal LLC. She was hired as SBJ’s online reporter in 2005, after completing an internship in 2004. Nilsen earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a print emphasis from Missouri State University. In her new position, which is a first for SBJ, she manages the Web site, sbj.net, and writes content for the site.

SBJ Publishing Inc., parent company of Springfield Business Journal, promoted Mike Noggle to the newly created position of director of business development. He is responsible for prospecting and developing new markets for SBJ Publishing.

Noggle, who joined Springfield Business Journal in 2002 as director of advertising and marketing, retains his position as general manager of Joplin Tri-State Business.

Five Drury communication students received top honors at the Missouri Broadcasters Educators Association’s state competition. Chris Beckman took first place in the documentary category for his work, “Homeless.” Beckman and Matt Stowe received first place in the episodic TV category for “Panthercuts.” Mallory McGowin won first place in corporate video for “Relay for Life” and an honorable mention for her public service announcement of the same name. Rafe Preston won first place in the sports package category for “Skateboarder” and an honorable mention for his news package, “Poet Groundskeeper.” Brian Bardsley received two honorable mentions – one in sports package for his coverage of the swimming and diving national competition and another in sports video for “DU Sports.”

Five Evangel University students also won first-place awards at the MBEA event. Producer Christina Glowacki and Director Phil Davis took first place in the video news category for “Newswatch.” Producer Bethany Benson and Director Karen Domingo earned first place in multicamera production for “Strobelight.” Courtney Baier earned first place in Web design for her work on the university’s student media site, www.crusadermedia.com.

Community

Four new members joined the board of Council of Churches of the Ozarks. They are Gordon Kinne, president of Med-Pay Inc.; Larry Maddox, president of the Springfield branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; Ken McClure, associate vice president of administrative services for Missouri State University; and Cindy Waites, former hospital administrator and past president of the Junior League of Springfield.

Chadwick Isom, executive chef at the Victory Trade School’s student-operated restaurant, The Cook’s Kettle, received the Louis Szathmary Chef Humanitarian Award. First given in 1997, the award recognizes cooks and chefs who have devoted time, energy and resources to a cause greater than their own career or personal benefit. Isom, who left a job as executive sous chef of Hemingway’s to join the school, is the 33rd recipient of the award.

Community Foundation of the Ozarks awarded $8,768 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks to add a monthly program highlighting different arts and cultural opportunities in after-school mentoring programs. The money will be used for supplies, programs and entertainment for the 14 Springfield Public Schools locations that host BBBS after-school mentoring programs.

Construction

Steven Lubbert joined MoDoCo General Contractors as director of product development. Lubbert is a licensed architect in the state of Illinois and was previously employed with Felmley-Dickerson of Bloomington, Ill.

Education

Mark McLean, a professor in Evangel University’s department of theology, will retire in May after 25 years of teaching at the school. McLean joined Evangel in 1982 after earning his doctorate degree in near-Eastern languages and civilizations from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. In addition to his teaching work, McLean is also a member of the Police Chaplains Service of Springfield.

Government

Albert “Duane” Addleman, of Springfield, was appointed to the state Park Advisory Board. Addleman, professor emeritus at Missouri State University, has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agriculture from University of Missouri-Columbia and a doctorate in genetics from Oregon State University.

Finance

Several members of the Springfield Public Schools finance department received honors. Cherie Alderson, the district’s chief financial officer, received certification from the American Society for Quality as a manager of quality and organizational excellence. Three other employees – Steve Chodes, comptroller; Debra Burling, accounting manager; and Bob Wells, investment manager – were designated as registered school business officials through the Association of School Business Officials International.

Health Care

Kristy Noble, president of St. John’s Hospital in Berryville, Ark., and Steve Erixon, CEO of Skaggs Community Health Center in Branson, achieved status as fellows of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Award candidates must pass a comprehensive exam, meet academic and experience criteria, and demonstrate professional and community involvement.

Dr. Pierre Clothiaux, orthopedic surgeon with Ferrell-Duncan Clinic, joined the CoxHealth board of directors. Clothiaux, who received degrees from Auburn University and University of Minnesota, has served on CoxHealth’s advisory board and the joint operations committee since 1996 and currently serves on the hospital’s surgical executive committee.

Insurance

Kelly Mauck of Capstone Insurors Inc. earned her insurance agent license. Mauck, who joined Capstone’s customer service team last year, is now certified to sell and service property and casualty insurance policies.

Real Estate

Rhonda Burks and Jeannine McCormick of Murney Associates, Realtors received the accredited staging professional designation. The two completed a detailed course and passed an examination on preparing homes for sale.

Utilities

Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. presented three employees with Excel Awards. Award winners are Desiree Parton, benefits administrator, who received the 2006 Excel Award for employee of the year in a secretarial or clerical field; Jeff Scranton, programmer, who received the award for outstanding community service; and Nancy Southworth, corporate communications manager, who received the award for employee of the year in a professional field.
