Phillip Fellwock, director of the Renovations program at The Arc of the Ozarks, passed all licensing requirements to be a practicing psychologist. The Renovations program helps adults with dual diagnosis, developmental and mental disabilities.

Jami Peebles, U.S. Bank's vice president of wealth management, was named a U.S. Bank Five Star Volunteer. A $1,000 donation will be made in Peebles' name to the Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross, which she serves as a board member.

Community Foundation of the Ozarks awarded grants totaling $135,000 to 12 local organizations. The grants, ranging from $1,000 to $25,000, are part of the foundation's metropolitan Springfield discretionary grants program and target community-identified needs for health and social service agencies.

Education

Samuel Der-Yeghiayan, a judge on the federal district court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago, received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Evangel University. Der-Yeghiayan graduated from Evangel in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in political science before earning his juris doctorate from Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, N.H.

Brenton DeBoef received Evangel's Outstanding Young Alumnus award. DeBoef, who earned an Evangel chemistry degree in 1998, went on to earn a master's degree and doctorate in organic chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis. He is now an assistant professor in the chemistry department at University of Rhode Island.

Commerce Bank donated $15,000 to the Missouri Colleges Fund to provide needs-based scholarships at member schools including Drury, Evangel and Southwest Baptist universities.

Finance

Skip Motsenbocker of SignalPoint Asset Management LLC attended the Charles Schwab Impact Conference in Atlanta, where industry professionals gathered to discuss the state of the U.S. and global economies and create new investment products that can help clients overcome the economic downturn.

Martha J. Huff, an administrator with Springfield Trust and Investment Co., became a certified trust and financial adviser approved by the Institute of Certified Bankers. The designation requires that wealth management professionals demonstrate standard knowledge and competence for the trust and wealth advisory field and meet eligibility requirements in professional experience and education. They also must pass the certification examination.

Government

Greene County Assessor Rick Kessinger was elected vice president of the Southwest Missouri Assessors Association, a division of the Missouri State Assessors Association. The local association covers a 19-county area.

Christopher Beck, Baptist Bible College's communications chairman, was appointed to the Missouri Genetic Disease Advisory Committee. Beck has a master's degree from Missouri State University and a doctorate in communications from Regent University in Virginia.

Susan M. Wendleton, administrative assistant to the general manager of the Carthage Water & Electric Plant, was appointed to the Missouri Public Entity Risk Management Fund.

Polk County Sheriff Steven Bruce was appointed to the Missouri Sheriff Methamphetamine Relief Taskforce.

Douglas Davis, publisher and president of the Lamar Democrat, was appointed to the Missouri Southern State University Board of Governors.

Stanley Schmidt, president and owner of Carthage accounting firm Schmidt Associates PC, was appointed to the Missouri State Board of Accountancy.

The American Red Cross Greater Ozarks Chapter received $250,000 in Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits. The credits will be used to construct a free-standing, self-sufficient, generator-operated disaster operations center to better respond to disasters and emergencies. The facility also will serve as a training and education center.

Insurance

Modern Woodmen of America, an Illinois-based fraternal organization offering insurance and financial services to its members, promoted Paul Atchley to managing partner of its Nixa office. Atchley, who has 10 years of financial industry experience, also recently attended leadership career institute and life insurance education seminars.

Real Estate

Mike Fusek, senior adviser with Sperry Van Ness/Rankin Co., attended the two-day Certified Commercial Investment Member Advanced Negotiating Workshop in Chicago. The workshop focused on creating solutions benefiting both the buyer and seller.[[In-content Ad]]
