Willard received a $1,000 prize for the Tour of Missouri Community Spirit Award. The Missouri Farm Bureau sponsors the award, and the prize money is earmarked for community improvements and fitness promotion. Willard will use the money for improvements to the new Highline Soccer Park, scheduled to open in spring 2009.

Education

Linda Wellborn, director of professional studies and academic quality improvement at Evangel University, was nominated to the 12-member steering committee for the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities Center for Research in Adult Learning. CCCU is an international association of nearly 200 Christian colleges and universities. Wellborn will serve a three-year term.

A study by Evangel graduate Kelly C. McLeland will be published in the next issue of Psychological Reports. The article, co-authored with Evangel professor Geoffrey Sutton and Kansas State University professor Walter Schumm, examines marital satisfaction associated with military deployment status. McLeland is working toward a doctorate in clinical psychology at Regent University.

Arlen Diamond, director of broadcast services for Missouri State University, received a $227,256 award from the U.S. Department of Commerce for the federal Telecommunications Facilities Program. The grant will allow Ozarks Public Television to make equipment upgrades to its master control facility, including a video switcher, high-definition router, video server and video hard-drive-based program archive.

Dana Frederick, director of MSU's Missouri Innovation Academy, received a $95,305 grant. The grant will fund the academy, which is a three-week summer program that teaches students about innovative product development and utilizes numerous educational subjects while teaching about the development of a product.

MSU biology professor Daniel Beckman received a $19,382 grant to fund his project, "City of Springfield Biological Assessment of Urban Streams V." The project examines the health of local waterways including Jordan, Wilson's and Galloway creeks.

MSU biology professor Thomas Tomasi received a $6,600 grant for "Winter Energetics of Little Brown Bat with White-Nose Syndrome." The project investigates the cause of the syndrome, named after the white fungus that accumulates on the bat's nose, wings and tail membranes during hibernation and leads to starvation.

Finance

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board appointed Steve Rafferty, professional practices partner with BKD LLP, to its Standing Advisory Group. At BKD, Rafferty oversees development of the firm's quality control policies and procedures. PCAOB is a private nonprofit organization designed to oversee public company auditors and protect the interests of investors.

Health Care

Cox College added Stacie Reed and Debby Adkins to its staff. Reed joins the college as bursar; she has several years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping and office management along with a business administration degree from MSU. Adkins is Cox's financial services business manager. She has an accounting degree from MSU and has experience in office management, staff accounting and financial management.

Citizens Memorial Home Health was named one of the 2008 HomeCare Elite, a compilation of the most successful Medicare-certified home health care providers in the country. The annual review identifies the top 25 percent of agencies ranked by quality outcomes, quality improvement and financial performance.

Citizens Memorial Healthcare's marketing department received five Show-Me Excellence Awards. CMH won first place in electronic internal publications, second place in annual reports and TV advertising, and third place in TV commercials and print advertising. The Show-Me Excellence awards are presented annually by the Missouri Association for Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing.

Sales
