Matt Thornton, project manager with Dake Wells Architecture, received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for new construction.

HMN Architects received an International Interior Design Association Mid-America Chapter gold award for its design of the McCune-Brooks Regional Hospital in Carthage.

Community

Dusty Emmert and Brent Dunn were accepted to the 2009-10 class of Leadership Missouri. Students travel the state learning about major issues facing Missourians and how to be more effective in dealing with business leaders and elected officials. Emmert is vice president of Larry Snyder & Co., and Dunn is Missouri State University's vice president of university advancement.

Jim Batten joined Convoy of Hope as executive vice president. Batten, who spent 14 years as O'Reilly Automotive's chief financial officer and most recently was AG Financial Solutions' chief operations officer, has an accounting degree from University of Central Missouri-Warrensburg.

Springfield-Greene County Library District received a $2,419 Missouri State Library grant to fund training sessions on creating a positive library environment and customer service experience for teens.

Springfield-Greene County Park Board's Cooper Tennis Complex was recognized as a Top 50 Tennis Welcome Center of 2008 by independent research firm Sports Marketing Surveys USA. The facility was recognized for providing well-rounded programs for various ages and abilities.

Construction

National Association of the Remodeling Industry awarded Keystone Building and Design LLC with the 2009 National Contractor of the Year Award in the residential kitchens ($30,000 to $60,000) category. Keystone received the award for remodeling a 1970s-style galley kitchen by increasing usable space and adding safety and accessibility for a special-needs customer.

Education

Neal Lopinot, director of MSU's Center for Archaeological Research, received a $9,734 Missouri Department of Transportation grant to fund research of plant remains at a site excavated prior to the construction of a bridge and the realignment of a bridge approach over Big Loose Creek in Osage County.

Keith Hardy received the 2009 Orville & Jewel Mills Young Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching from Evangel University. Hardy, Evangel's physical education, recreation and exercise science department chairman, has been at the school since 2000 and teaches exercise physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology and statistics classes. He has a doctorate from the University of Arkansas.

Evangel communication professor Mark Kelton received Evangel's 2009 E.M. & Estella Clark Award for Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship and Service. Kelton, a 1982 Evangel communication graduate, joined the faculty in 1985 after earning his master's degree from Regent University. He has since earned a doctorate from University of Missouri. In addition to teaching speech and communication, he is director of forensics and coaches Evangel's intercollegiate speech team.

Finance

Steve Whitfield was named managing partner for CBI-Sunbelt Business Advisors of the Ozarks. Whitfield spent the last 20 years with Tyson Foods in Springdale, Ark.[[In-content Ad]]
