Stephanie D. Ireland of Ireland Architects passed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design accreditation exam for new construction.

Communications

Andrea Turner joined communications company 2 Balance Inc. as a human resources consultant. Turner, who has a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Business Administration from Georgia State Unversity, has worked for health care companies Cerner and McKesson.

Community

Gene Barnes joined AWS, a service company for disabled individuals, as a director who will work to build the Springfield sector of the company. Barnes was formerly president and CEO of Arc of the Ozarks and has bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration.

Boys & Girls Town was awarded $250,000 in state tax credits for capital improvements at its Springfield location. The improvements, funded through the Missouri Department of Economic Development Youth Opportunities Program, will include energy-efficient systems, a children's cottage and updated safety features.

Education

Missouri State University associate professor Tamara J. Arthaud received a $25,000 grant from Special Olympics Inc. for the creation of the "Sport Health Improvement Program II." The money will be used to send five interns to Washington, D.C., where they will work with International Special Olympics to develop the program to be implemented in southwest Missouri.

MSU political science professor Dennis Hickey received a $15,000 grant for his project "Taiwan and the Chinese Mainland: Cross-Strait Relations in a Time of Transition." The grant, awarded by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Kansas City, will fund an Oct. 17 conference on the topic.

Linda Dollar, Wensey Marsh, John Schatz, Genevieve Cramer, Ralph Williams and Milton Rafferty will be added to MSU's Wall of Fame this fall. The group is honored for a combined 171 years of service to the university.

Drury University's Students in Free Enterprise team was awarded $10,000 to increase marketing and production of its board game, Choice and Chance Finance. The Cloud L. Cray foundation awarded the funds that will amount to 750 games potentially reaching 15,000 students. The board game teaches high school students real-life financial scenarios.

Health Care

American College of Radiology awarded the CoxHealth Martin Center for Diagnostic and Imaging Services accreditation in the areas of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine and PET/CT, making the center accredited in all areas of radiology.

Dr. Michael Edward Haas joined the pediatric urgent care team at CoxHealth. Haas, a board-eligible pediatrician, went to medical school at the University of Texas and completed his residency at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Dr. Jennifer Butler joined the staff at the CoxHealth Center in Nixa. Butler completed medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School and finished her residency at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Hospitality

John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts was awarded 12 top recognitions at the 25th Anniversary Embassy Suites brand conference in San Diego. Awards included the Connie Award, determined by quality, satisfaction and loyalty ratings, the Top Quality System Award, which was given to 10 Hammons Hotels properties, and the Make a Difference Hotel of the Year Award.[[In-content Ad]]
