Cindy Busby, executive assistant to the vice president for university advancement at Missouri State University, was named president of the Missouri Division of the International Association of Administrative Professionals. Busby is an IAAP-certified professional secretary and administrative professional, and a member of the group's Hawthorn Chapter.

Architecture

Lesley Guillot of Buddy Webb & Co. received professional accreditation in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Guillot has spent six years with the firm working on hospitality, office and retail projects, and earned her bachelor's degree in architecture from Drury University.

Michael N. Nesbitt, vice president of Nesbitt Construction Inc., received accreditation in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Community

Dana Popp, MSU's budget officer, was named Rotaractor of the Year by the Rotaract Club of Springfield. Popp has been an active member since 2004.

The Rotary Club of Springfield Southeast honored Cpl. Maggie McDowell of the Springfield Police Department and Lt. Blaine Kennard of the Greene County Sheriff's Department with its vocational awards. Also, Capt. Paul Tyler was named Fire Officer of the Year; Matt Lyon was named Firefighter of the Year; and Dave Davis of Hillcrest High School was named Springfield's Teacher of the Year.

Boys & Girls Town of Missouri Southwest Region added Wayne Dipper of KPM Technology LLC, Cheryl Doran of Pellham-Phillips Architects & Engineers and Carlia Waite of Baird, Lightner, Millsap & Harpool PC to its board of trustees.

Education

Barrie Talbott, an English instructor at Ozarks Technical Community College, was named a 2009 Higher Education Educator by the Missouri Distance Learning Association. This is the first year for the award, given to instructors who teach online or other courses outside of the classroom.

The Missouri Society for Respiratory Care honored Doug Pursley, respiratory therapy coordinator at OTC with the Craig A. Ziegelbein Service Award. Pursley was recognized for his leadership in 34 years of respiratory care work, which includes creation of a national seminar to provide continuing education credit for respiratory therapists.

Engineering

Brent Courter of Smith-Goth Engineers Inc. earned his professional engineer license from the Missouri State Board of Architects, Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Courter began his career at Smith-Goth as an electrical engineer intern in 2002.

Government

Missouri Rep. Charlie Denison, R-Springfield, received a Legislative Award from the St. Louis Business Journal. Denison was recognized for sponsoring House Bill 359, which created jobs by changing how highway projects are awarded. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission now awards design-build contracts, which allows all aspects of a project to be awarded in one bid, reducing project lengths and lowering project costs.

Human Resources

David Pierce, Southwest Baptist University's director of human resources, and Karl Schmidt, American Heart Association's regional director, gave a presentation on keeping health care costs lower by implementing wellness programs in university settings. Presented at the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources regional conference in Branson, "Worklife/Wellness, Benefits" discussed how wellness programs can be practically promoted.

Manufacturing

The Southwest Area Manufacturers Association elected its 2009 board of directors: Ron Guinn of SRC Holdings Corp., president; Greg Rocque of Tuthill Transport Technologies, first vice president; Jeff Dempster of Tod's Tool Grinding in Seneca, second vice president; John Gentry of Positronic Industries, treasurer; and Denise McIntosh of Custom Powder Systems, secretary. SAMA directors are Bob Edmonds of Edmonds Dental Prosthetics, Mark Harper of Window Technology in Monett, Bill Henry of Scroll Compressors in Ava and Gary Moss of Web-Co Custom Industries in Marshfield.

Media

Benjamin Burns and Gary Bennett joined D.L. Media Inc. as client service consultants. Burns received a communications degree from SBU and formerly worked at Noble Communications. Bennett received a master's degree in marketing from Taylor University and has more than 26 years of marketing experience, most recently at BKD LLP. Both provide promotional product marketing support.

Service

Alexander Open Systems, a technology solutions provider, received the EMC Velocity 2 Authorized Services Network Award based on customer feedback.
