Aaron Luebbe and Tara White joined Kirkpatrick, Phillips & Miller CPAs PC as staff accountants. Luebbe and White started working at KPM as interns in 2007 and both earned master's degrees in accounting this year from Missouri State University.

Architecture

Anna Kangas, an architectural intern at GHN Architects/Engineers, became a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-accredited professional. Kangas graduated from Drury University in 2008 and was a member of the Drury studio that designed and built the world's first LEED Platinum-Certified Habitat for Humanity home.

Community

The National Cancer Institute awarded a five-year, $4.2 million grant to Cancer Research for the Ozarks. The organization, which is funded 80 percent by the National Cancer Institute and 20 percent between CoxHealth and St. John's, works to fund clinical trials for cancer patients.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield donated $20,000 and joined CoxHealth as a local sponsor of American Heart Association's Start! program and the 2010 Springfield Start! Heart Walk. The program encourages participating employees to adopt nutrition and walking plans.

The March of Dimes Greater Missouri Chapter has awarded the Doula Foundation of Mid-America a grant to help fund prenatal health education classes. The Brady Millsap Family Grant is organized by the Millsap family of Lebanon in honor of their son Brady, who died as a result of a birth defect.

The Rotary Club of Springfield North named its 2009-10 officers: James Young of Bus Andrews Truck Equipment Inc., president; Brett Sheet of Steelman Transportation Inc., president-elect; Gary Wells of Kirkpatrick, Phillips & Miller CPAs, treasurer; Margaret Geiger of Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home, secretary; and John Schaefer of Ozarks Coca-Cola/Dr Pepper Bottling Co., sergeant at arms. The board of directors is Elaine McDonald, Bart Brown, Joe Costello, Bob Horton and Charles Vandivert.

Construction

MSU students Jeffery Creamer and Brady Bond were awarded the John May Memorial Scholarship by the Springfield division of Walton Construction Co. Creamer and Bond were two of 30 construction and industrial management students who applied for the $2,000 scholarship.

Education

Seventeen Ozarks Technical Community College students won six medals in the National Leadership and SkillsUSA Conference in Kansas City. Two in the trade competition were first-place awards: Katie Boyts in screen-printing technology and Emily Spiller in food and beverage service. The event included more than 5,000 high school and college students who are training in skilled trades.

Central Bible College was named as one of 150 colleges considered a great place to work by The Chronicle of Higher Education. The list is partially based on employee surveys.

Springfield Public Schools was among the 288 Missouri districts to earn the Total Fleet Excellence status by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Department of Public Safety. Springfield's bus fleet received a 97 percent approval rating.

Health Care

Brad W. Jones joined Ozarks Community Hospital to provide podiatric care for Medicare and Medicaid patients.[[In-content Ad]]
