R. Barnes Whitlock received a Mizzou Alumni Association Faculty-Alumni Award. Whitlock, a certified public accountant and founding partner of The Whitlock Co., received the award based on professional accomplishments, service to the community and service to the University of Missouri.
Education
Kartik Ghosh, associate professor of physics, astronomy and materials science at Missouri State University, received a $264,747 grant from the National Science Foundation. The grant will be used to purchase equipment for a two-year project researching ferromagnetism, directed by Ghosh and involving Pawan Kahol, associate dean of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, and Ram Gupta, research assistant professor in the physics, astronomy and materials science department.
Beth Hurst received a Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Service from MSU. Hurst, a professor of reading education, was recognized for research focused on ways to improve reading and learning instruction.
Tracey Glaessgen, an MSU academic adviser, was named regional representative for southwest Missouri at the 2009 Missouri Academic Advising Association Conference. Her term runs through September 2011.
Gilbert Brown, MSU's associate professor of counseling, leadership and special education, received the 2010 National Association for Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education Outstanding Faculty award for the IV-West region.
Health Care
Licensed massage therapist Dale Nimmo attended a seminar entitled Precision Neuromuscular Therapy of the Lower Extremity as a step to achieving certification as a neuromuscular therapist. Nimmo, who owns Tissue Issues and received training through Professional Massage Training Center, is certified through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic and Massage Therapy. He is also a member of the Missouri chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association.
Insurance
Janet Kesler joined PJC Insurance Agency as corporate health technician. She oversees corporate health division customer service, contract preparation and marketing responsibilities in the southern Missouri region.
Nonprofit
Megan Connell was named director of Gift of Hope Inc. Connell previously worked at Connell Insurance and the Table Rock Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. Gift of Hope is a nonprofit agency developed by National Enzyme Co. that operates My Neighbors Pantry in Forsyth.
Alice Wingo joined the Ozarks Area Community Action Corp. as resource development director. She oversees fund development, community events, serves as media contact and assists with grant writing. Wingo has more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and fundraising, and has a bachelor's degree in communications management.
