Architecture Dake Wells Architecture’s design of the multipurpose space at the Exeter R-VI School was recognized by several national publications. The project earned a citation in Architect magazine’s Annual Design Review; a merit award from Interior Design magazine’s Best of Year Awards; an Interiors Award from Contract Magazine’s annual Interiors Awards; and a 2010 Institute Honor Award for Interior Architecture from the American Institute of Architects.
Education Elizabeth Fletcher, chair of the Department of Business and Economics at Evangel University, was elected to serve a three-year term on the Teen Challenge USA Board of Directors.
Commerce Bancshares Foundation donated $15,000 to the Missouri Colleges Fund. The money will underwrite the Commerce Bancshares Teacher Scholars Program by providing scholarships at the 16 member schools including Drury, Evangel and Southwest Baptist.
Nancy Brake-Johnson was named principal at Fremont Elementary School beginning in the fall. Brake-Johnson, currently principal at Westport Elementary School, holds a doctorate in educational administration-elementary administration from the University of Missouri.
Evangel University’s Social Work Program was reaffirmed by the Council on Social Work Education for eight years, extending its accreditation to February 2018.
Forest ReLeaf of Missouri recognized Springfield Public Schools with an Exceptional ReLeaf Award for its efforts reforesting school grounds. The district planted about 100 ReLeaf-provided trees after losing half of its existing trees in the 2007 ice storm.
Engineering Andrew Sparks, senior geotechnical engineer in GeoEngineers’ Springfield office, presented the paper, “Targeted Horizontal Directional Drilled Design Under Levees to Reduce Potential for Hydraulic Fracture and Inadvertent Returns,” during the Underground Construction Technology International Conference & Exhibition.
Finance The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors named Roy Kern of Kern Insurance Services the Springfield Insurance Advisor of the Decade. Kern has been in the insurance industry for 30 years. NAIFA Springfield also awarded Brian Dixon with the 2009 NAIFA Springfield Advisor of the Year and Deborah Coulter with the 2009 Judy Sorenson Memorial Award.
Paul Ebisch was promoted to executive vice president/chief financial officer at Assemblies of God Credit Union. Ebisch, who has 15 years of financial services experience, earned his bachelor’s degree from Cameron University and has a Master of Divinity from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.
Michael Buttacy was hired as a mortgage loan officer at Assemblies of God Credit Union. Buttacy earned a bachelor’s at Evangel University and Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
Victor Fugate was hired as branch manager for the Independence Street location of Assemblies of God Credit Union. Fugate has been in the banking industry for 11 years, most recently at Bank of America. He holds degrees in business management and public administration from Evangel University.
Government Taney County was awarded a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Missouri Department of Economic Development. The money will help pay for improvements to Boys Camp Road.
The Springfield-Greene County Library District received two Missouri State Library grants totaling $108,830. The grants will be used to digitize Civil War documents from the Ozarks and to help fund the Summer Reading to Go Program.
Health Dr. Deborah LaScola joined St. John’s Clinic-Urology as a urologist. She treats urinary system problems and specializes in minimally invasive treatment of kidney and prostate cancer. LaScola received her medical education from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine and completed her surgical internship and urologic residency training at Saint Louis University Hospital.
Law Attorney Jennifer Mueller joined the business litigation and employment law team at Baird, Lightner, Millsap & Harpool. Mueller has practiced law locally for 12 years, most recently at Husch Blackwell Sanders.
