Powell McHaney was named president of Springfield’s Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club. The club’s main beneficiary is the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield.

Boys & Girls Town of Missouri
received a $25,000 grant from the city of Springfield. The grant allows the organization to include 18-year-olds in its Empowering Youth program, which provides emergency shelter services for homeless youth, starting at age 10.

The Junior League of Springfield
received the Community Impact Award at its annual conference. The award includes a $10,000 check given to Junior League project Isabel’s House.   

Timothy Dygon
was promoted to director of renovations at The Arc of the Ozarks. He previously served as assistant program director.

Champion Athletes of the Ozarks announced its 2010 board of directors: Dan Shumaker, Fremont Hills Country Club, president; Dr. Brian Mahaffey, St. John’s Sports Medicine, president-elect; Chad Turner, Medtronic Spine, vice president; Michael J. DeArmon, Neale & Newman LLP, secretary; and Stephen Evans, Evans Wealth Planning, treasurer.

Jim Anderson
, president of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, received the O. Franklin Kenworthy Award for Outstanding Leadership from Leadership Springfield.

Education

Drury University graduate Brett Marler received one of 55 Fulbright grants to teach English abroad for the 2010–11 academic year on behalf of the Institution of International Education.

Drury, Evangel and Southwest Baptist universities will benefit from three scholarship grants totaling $67,600 received by the Missouri Colleges Fund.

Alina Lehnert
, strengths performance coach and assistant professor of organizational leadership at Evangel, presented two lectures at the Gallup Strengths in Education Conference in Omaha, Neb.

Scott Leven, Wes Merritt, Rick Noble, Layne LaBarge
and Kyle Tielmeland were inducted into Delta Mu Delta, an international business honor society, at Ozarks Regional Campus of Webster University in Springfield.

Martin Mittelstadt
, associate professor of New Testament at Evangel, was published in the inaugural issue of  “Canadian Journal of Pentecostal Charismatic Christianity.” An Evangel faculty member since 2002, Mittelstadt also has published two books.

Government

Gail Noggle, Republic director of planning and development, was elected to the Missouri Economic Development Council board of directors to represent District 6.
Jim Anderson, president of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, received the O. Franklin Kenworthy Award for Outstanding Leadership from Leadership Springfield.

Health Care

Dr. Dan Sontheimer, CoxHealth vice president of medical affairs, was named to the 2010 Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. He will be one of 500 experts who review and evaluate applications for the award.

Registered nurse Pamela Reese was named chief clinical officer for Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. She previously was vice president/chief nurse executive for St. John’s Health System in Springfield.

Transportation

Prime Inc. honored Eugene Ghiurca for driving 2 million miles without a preventable accident. Tracy Crawford, Patrick Lemay, Micheal McClenaham, William McCloud and Cesar Pinillos were honored for achieving Prime’s Gold Million level for driving 1 million miles during seven years with no preventable accidents. James Lewallen was honored for achieving Prime’s Silver Million level for driving 1 million miles during three years with no preventable accidents.[[In-content Ad]]
