Banking Cyndi Crews joined Arvest Bank as branch manager at the Republic Road location. Her responsibilities include providing sales and service leadership, as well as customer development and customer relations. Crews has more than 25 years in banking experience, most recently as vice president and banking center manager for Bank Midwest.
Community Piatchek and Associates founder and president John Piatchek received the Irvin Westheimer Mission Award for his 17 years of support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks.
Education Dennis Kear, dean of the College of Education at Missouri State University, received a $549,588 grant from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The money funds Project Access, which provides support and technical assistance to school districts serving students with autism.
Russell Rhodes, biology professor emeritus at MSU, received an $8,370 grant from the U.S. Geological Survey for his project, “Phytoplankton Analysis of Beaver Lake Reservoir, Arkansas.”
Greenwood Laboratory School for the Science Scholars’ Laboratory received a joint grant of $65,000 from the William T. Kemper Foundation and the Commerce Bank Foundation. The grant will help fund construction of two 1,800-square-foot laboratory/classrooms with three study atriums, faculty offices and a large atrium.
Don Hoeck, associate professor of physical education at College of the Ozarks was elected to serve a three-year term on board of directors for the Christian Society of Kinesiology and Leisure Studies.
Bryan Sanders, professor of legal studies and government at Evangel University, accepted the role of department chair for the social sciences department. Sanders also was selected for the Marquis Who’s Who in the World 2011 biography compilation of leaders. Sanders holds a bachelor’s degree from Evangel and a juris doctor from Oral Roberts University.
Health Care St. John’s nurses Debbie Ream and Carla Weber contributed to a presentation given by Mercy nurses at the 21st International Nursing Research Congress in Orlando, Fla. The presentation focused on the prevention of apprehension in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurses providing end-of-life care to infants and their families. Insurance Robert L. Meek, agent at PJC Insurance Agency LLC, attended the 2010 Missouri Association of Insurance Agents Leadership Conference at Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark.
