Education
Alissa Jecklin, program coordinator for the Missouri Mentoring Partnership project and School of Social Work, received an ongoing annual grant of $131,767 from the Missouri Department of Social Services. The funds support the Worksite Mentoring Program and the Young Parent Program, which helps parents younger than 21 to improve their parenting skills, increase childhood immunizations, promote education and prevent additional unplanned pregnancies.

Environment
Betina Morelock was named accounts receivable clerk for Environmental Works Inc. Morelock worked at Citizens National Bank the past five years, most recently as a bookkeeper.

Government
Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Springfield attorney Andy Dalton to the State Environmental Improvement and Energy Resources Authority, which protects Missouri’s environment, develops energy alternatives and promotes economic development. Dalton of Haden, Cowherd and & Bullock LLC worked as general counsel for City Utilities of Springfield 1996–2007.

Hospitality
The Southwest Missouri Lodging Association re-elected its board of directors for the 2011–13 term: Pete Hall, general manager of the Residence Inn by Marriott; Christopher Beyer, general manager of the Fairfield Inn by Marriott; Robert Henley, general manager of the Holiday Inn-Joplin; Mike Greninger, director of sales of the La Quinta Inn; and Rebecca Swindell, general manager of the Hampton Inn. The board members are elected every two years and may serve a maximum of three consecutive terms.

Insurance
Bankers Life and Casualty Co. named Paul Paladino sales manager of its Springfield branch. Paladino worked for the company 2005–08, then served as a branch manager for Universal American Corp.

Law
Dee Wampler and Joseph Passanise were recognized as 2010 Missouri Super Lawyers in the area of criminal defense by the Law and Politics publication. Wampler and Passanise have been selected each year since 2006.

Legal Services of Southern Missouri honored Michele K. Nigliazzo, of West Plains, with the Philip S. Huffman Memorial Award for volunteering more than 100 pro bono hours to represent low-income persons in southern Missouri. Nigliazzo worked as an intellectual property attorney in Colorado before moving to Howell County.

Nonprofit
Gov. Jay Nixon was named to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Legacy Foundation, a national, independent public health foundation that focuses on combating the health risks of tobacco use through grants, technical assistance, training partnerships and grassroots marketing campaigns.

SCORE named Dennis Jones, of Springfield, as president of the Missouri district. Jones coordinates activities for six chapters and 256 volunteers of the small business counseling organization. Jones has worked for IBM, Texas Instruments and was most recently employed as a business broker.[[In-content Ad]]
