Architecture Matthew Capen of H Design Group LLC earned an architecture license from the Missouri Division of Professional Registration. In his six years at H Design – after earning his architecture degree from University of Kansas in 2003 – Capen has worked on several projects including Springfield Reliable Superstore Audi renovation, Meek Chiropractic and St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Nixa.
Banking Postal Federal Community Credit Union promoted associates Derek Williams, Jordan Leming and Brad Christman. Williams was named vice president of branch and member services after working previously as vice president of information systems. Williams, who has been with PFCCU for nine years, received his bachelor’s in computer information systems from Missouri State University. Leming was named manager of the credit union’s Nixa branch. He worked previously as assistant manager of the Sunset branch and earned his bachelor’s in business administration from Drury University. Christman was named manager of the Seminole branch after serving as an assistant branch manager. He received his bachelor’s in finance from Missouri State University.
Education Three principals at Springfield Public Schools were honored by the Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals for 2010–11. Rountree Elementary School Principal David Martin was named Distinguished Principal, Gray Elementary School Principal Angie Carder was named Exemplary New Principal, and Hickory Hills School Assistant Principal Stayce Manlove was named Outstanding Assistant Principal.
Engineering Chris Dunnaway, a member of Olsson Associates Inc.’s Springfield water resources team, passed the professional engineering exam. Dunnaway graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 2006 with a bachelor’s in civil engineering.
Finance Annette FitzGerald, family financial education specialist for the University of Missouri Extension in Branson, was selected by the U.S. Treasury Department to serve on the nationwide Taxpayer Advocacy Panel. She is one of 100 volunteer panel members who listen to taxpayers, identify issues and make suggestions for improving Internal Revenue Service service and customer satisfaction.
Health Care Citizens Memorial Healthcare in Bolivar hired three general surgeons: Dr. Brian D. Biggers, a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine; Dr. Charles W. Dunn, a graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine; and Dr. G. Chapman Olive, a graduate of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Nonprofit The Springfield Jaycees selected its 2011 board members: Elijah Haahr, president; Scott Pearson, vice president; Krystal Drysdale, community development vice president; Jake Krizan, membership vice president; Ben Clutter, individual vice president; Christen Buckmaster, secretary; and Chad Noble, treasurer. Outgoing president Greg Weaver is chairman of the board.
The Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau presented The Volunteer of the Year Award to John Williams. Williams and his wife, Mary, were among the bureau’s first volunteers more than 20 years ago, and John Williams has contributed more than 5,400 hours to the bureau. The Ozarks Area Racers Reunion inducted eight people into its Pioneers and Legends Hall of Fame. Inducted as pioneers were Johnny Morris, Steve Long, Gerald Wilson and Mark Perry. Inducted as legends were Steve Schahuber, Rex McCroskey, Dave Williams and Bill Frye.
Springfield’s two Houlihan’s restaurants raised $20,782 at their second annual Isabel’s Tree fundraiser. The funds help support the Isabel’s House crisis nursery for children up to age 12 whose families are in crisis.
City Utilities transit driver Randy Thomas was selected by his peers as the 2010 Driver of the Year. Thomas has driven for CU since 1994 and currently drives Line 12, which serves southeastern Springfield. The award selection is based on job performance, courtesy, neatness, attendance, accident-free driving and attitude.
