Brad Parrish, president of Palmerton & Parrish Inc., was one of seven civil engineers inducted into the Missouri University of Science and Technology Academy of Civil Engineers for his contributions to the profession, leadership and involvement with the school. Parrish holds civil engineering bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Missouri S&T.

Banking and Finance
Arvest Bank hired Carla Green as a mortgage lender at its National Avenue and Chestnut Expressway branch. Green has 10 years of experience in mortgage lending and 30 years in banking.

The U.S. Small Business Administration named David Ross director of the Kansas City district, which oversees the Springfield branch. Ross succeeds Gary Cook, who retired.

Education
Missouri State University Associate Professor of Journalism Andrew Cline was honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation as part of Bicycle and Pedestrian Day in Jefferson City. Cline has traveled mainly by bicycle for more than seven years, has written a book about cycling, and writes the Carbon Trace blog about cycling and walking as transportation.

Government
Greene County Prosecutor Dan Patterson was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the Missouri Army National Guard from the rank of major. Patterson has served the National Guard for about 16 years, and is currently command judge advocate with the 35th Engineer Brigade in Fort Leonard Wood.

Health Care
Cox Monett Hospital named Genice Maroc as vice president and administrator. Maroc is the former CEO at Marengo Memorial Hospital in Marengo, Iowa. She earned a master’s degree in hospital administration from Des Moines University and a bachelor’s from Grandview University.

Tasha Blackwell joined Omega Healthcare of Southwest Missouri as marketing director. Blackwell, who previously worked as marketing and public relations manager at Integrity Home Care, received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in marketing from Missouri State University.

St. John’s Dr. Thomas Essman was named Physician of the Year during the Mercy Service Appreciation Awards Banquet. Other doctors recognized, along with 10 co-workers to receive Mercy Appreciation Awards, were: Robert Cavagnol and Kyle John, as Young Physicians of the Year; and Robert Mahnken and Jeff Johnson, for community service. Emergency Medical Services Director Bob Patterson was recognized by St. John’s Foundation for Community Health for his volunteerism at the St. John’s Sunshine Run.

Hospitality
Candlewood Suites on Republic Road received the InterContinental Hotels Group 2010 Torchbearer Award at a company conference in Las Vegas. The south Springfield hotel is one of 83 properties in the Americas chosen from the IHG’s 4,400 hotel system for achieving the highest level of operations, from quality to customer satisfaction.
The Hampton Inn South Hotel received a 2010 Circle of Excellence Award, given to the top 10 percent of Hampton properties nationwide. Springfield’s Hampton Inn South ranked No. 84 out of 1,163 hotels.

Insurance
Nixon & Lindstom Insurance hired Joni Burk and Amanda Raymer as customer service representatives. Burk works in commercial insurance, and Raymer in personal insurance.

Transportation
Dave White of Prime Inc., who served as chairman of MTA’s Council of Safety Supervisors, accepted on MTA’s behalf the Summa Cum Laude Award from American Trucking Associations.

Travel
Branson Airport was named one of America’s Top 10 Stress-Free Airports by SmarterTravel.com, joining those in Seattle; Palm Springs, Calif.; Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn.; Tucson, Ariz.; Austin, Texas; Providence, R.I.; New Bern, N.C.; Orlando; and Palm Beach, Fla.
