Education
Ozarks Technical Community College’s Fire Science Technology program earned accreditation from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress, joining one of roughly 40 such programs in the world. The accreditation is established for five years.

Government
State Rep. Thomas Long, R-Battlefield, was appointed vice chairman of the House Committee on Transportation.
Mount Vernon High School student Aaron Conway was awarded first place in the 7th Congressional District in the 30th annual Congressional Art Competition. Conway’s piece, “Hello, my name is Aaron,” will be displayed in the corridor of the U.S. Capitol, and he will be invited to participate in an official reception in Washington, D.C., in June.

Health Care
Missouri Foundation for Health awarded the Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross a two-year grant for $100,000 to help provide disaster training and emergency relief.

Insurance
Connell Insurance added Maggie Buckner as a customer service assistant in the life and health department. Buckner brings 11 years of health insurance experience, which includes the processing of medical, dental and vision claims and appeals.

Manufacturing
Hiland Dairy Foods Co.
of Springfield received the Gingrich Award for Production Excellence and the Zimmerman Award for Marketing Excellence at the 2011 QCS Leadership Conference. The conference was hosted by “Quality Chekd,” which is a member-owned organization of independent dairy processors.
Rolla computer-chip manufacturer Brewer Science received the Founder’s Award from the Missouri Association of Manufacturers at the eighth annual Manufacturing Summit held in Springfield. The award is presented to MAM members celebrating a decade anniversary and that have been in business at least 30 years. Brewer Science, which operates a lab at Jordan Valley Innovation Center, was founded in 1981.

Nonprofit
Psychologist Nancy O’Reilly and Raylene Appleby of PJC Insurance attended the 55th annual session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women as representatives of OSMTH, known commonly as the Knights Templar. During the two-week conference, representatives formulated policies to promote gender equality and the advancement of women worldwide.
Lindt USA named Kerri Duncan of the Rivendale Center for Autism and Institute of Learning as a 2011 Lindt Unsung Hero of Autism. Duncan, Rivendale founder and school director, was one of three honorees selected for the honor nationwide.[[In-content Ad]]
