David Stoeffler announced Monday he will be stepping down as executive editor of the News-Leader.
Stoeffler, who was named executive editor about four years ago, plans to move to Wisconsin, where he told the News-Leader he would be closer to friends and family.
The position will be left vacant upon Stoeffler's planned resignation date of May 15. Managing Editor Cheryl Whitsitt has been tapped to lead the Springfield newspaper in the interim, according to the report.
