Newmont Mining Corp. agreed to buy Goldcorp Inc., its smaller rival, in a $10 billion deal.
The deal would create the world's largest gold producer by output, according to Reuters.
Combined with Goldcorp, Newmont expects to produce up to 7 million ounces of gold over the next decade.
